The Pirelli calendar, known for its artsy and usually very naked photographs of celebs and models, shot, usually, by fashion photographers like Mario Sorrenti (who did last year’s), Terry Richardson, or Karl Lagerfeld, is headed in a very different direction for 2013.
Steve McCurry, an acclaimed photojournalist best known for that haunting National Geographic photo of the Afghan girl with green eyes (see it here here) has been confirmed as the photographer. But who are his 12 muses? Modelinia is reporting a rumor that Karlie Kloss has signed on to the project.

The Pirelli calendar–otherwise known as the classiest pin-up girly calendar ever–is an annual tradition for those lucky few VIPs who find it in their mailboxes. It’s traditionally shot by world-renowned fashion photographers (Karl Lagerfeld last year, Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Terry Richardson…the list goes on and on) and features A-list models and actresses. This morning we attended a press conference to preview the 2012 Pirelli calendar, and it left us feeling very warm and um, tingly.
First of all, the calendar was shot in Corsica by Mario Sorrenti, who was in attendance and who is exceptionally easy on the eyes (he’s a former model). Second of all, every single model in the calendar is as naked as the day she was born, and we were treated to a 20-minute long behind-the-scenes video documenting the shoots of all 12 models. Suffice it to say there was a lot of glistening flesh (in almost every scene an assistant is seen spritzing down the models), and a lot of come-hither looks. Here are the ladies who the lucky recipients will get to ogle in 2012: Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.
Italian Vanity Fair has published the first photos from the 2012 Pirelli Calendar. The calendar was shot in beautiful Corisca, Italy by Mario Sorrenti (the first Italian to shoot the calendar, Vanity Fair points out). Unlike last year’s Karl Lagerfeld-lensed calendar, which took place in a Paris studio, this one takes place outdoors and has a more natural feel.
The shoot took place over a week in May, making it one of Kate Moss’ last photo shoots as a single lady. The calendar’s other stars include Lara Stone, Saskia de Brauw, Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, Milla Jovovich and Isabeli Fontana.
