Urban Outfitters, who is no stranger to our Adventures In Copyright series, is back at it again. This time around the victim is Proenza Schouler. Reader Tina pointed out that the Urban Outfitters’ ‘Realitee Tye Dye Sweatshirt’ looks remarkably similar to a top from Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 collection. And we wholeheartedly agree. This is a flagrant knock-off.

A reader tipped us off to yet another mass retailer selling a handbag that looks very similar to Proenza’s PS1. This time, surprisingly, it’s the Gap. Gap’s version seems to be denim and while the front buckles are a little different, it has the same top handle, shoulder strap and triangular flap as the original. It’s weird – Gap doesn’t usually do knock-offs, but I guess everyone wants in on this ridiculously popular messenger bag.

How’d You Get So Far? Gayle Dizon’s Honest Answer to Succeeding in Fashion
If you’ve been to a big show at New York Fashion Week, you know Gayle Dizon’s work. She’s the powerhouse behind Dizon, Inc., a 10-year-old event production company that organizes shows for the likes of Proenza Schouler, ADAM, and Thakoon. She also happens to be one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in the industry. People that work with her/have worked with her have nothing but good things to say–and that’s a true test of success.
Gayle was gracious enough to answer our standard questions on how to succeed in fashion. We hope you learn something–we sure did!
How did you get started?
Doonan Leaves Observer: The creative director of Barney’s has written a column for the New York Observer for the past 10 years but he’s leaving print for the greener pastures of online at Slate. It’s a great coup for Slate. Can’t wait to read him over there. Hope he keeps writing gems like this. {Business Insider}
Anna Does Late Night: Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs were on Jimmy Fallon last night to talk about Fashion’s Night Out. When the conversation steered away from FNO, Wintour promptly brought FNO back to the forefront. Other highlights? Wintour complaining about Gaga performing late at the last Met Gala because she was too busy “communing with god,” and Marc Jacobs flubbing his words a bit on why he’s in a sling in Vogue’s September issue promoting FNO: “But, unfortunately, or fortunately, one can’t say no to Anna.” So he got off his morphine drip and posed. {theCut}
Brits to Watch: The British Fashion Council (the UK’s version of the CFDAs) has released their list of nominees. Among them: Victoria Beckham and Burberry for designer brand, Lara Stone and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for models, and for the all important designer of the year award, it’s between Christopher Kane, Erdem and Phoebe Philo for Céline. {Daily Front Row}

Talking Modeling with Ann & Kirby Kenny
No you’re not seeing double. Modeling’s current stars are twins Ann and Kirby Kenny.
Even though AW10 was their first season doing shows, combined they walked for such industry bigwigs as Prada, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Celine, Proenza Schouler, and Burberry, just to name a few. Now they’re gearing up for SS11, which is sure to be another hit.

Fashion’s Night Out is two weeks from tomorrow! There is more going on than we can even wrap our heads around. Having trouble deciding where you want to go and who you want to see the most?
Well, if you’re interested in catching a peak of one of your favorite designers, here’s a roundup of where some of the biggest and the best will be on September 10. We’ve excluded most of the people we’ve already reported on. Also, it’s almost safe to say that if someone isn’t on this list, they will probably be at Barneys.
Michael Kors
Michael will be at his lifestyle store on Madison and 61st in New York City. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Idina Menzel, whom Michael will accompany on a selection of songs. Michael will also make an appearance nearby at Bloomingdale’s 59th street, where the “World of Michael” will be created to kick off a new Michael Kors handbag shop-in-shop.
Tommy Hilfiger
Tommy will be kicking off FNO and his brand’s 25th anniversary at Macy’s Herald Square. As we’ve reported, Macy’s will house “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” as inspired by Tommy’s most recent ad campaign. Tommy will be accompanied by Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren. He will also make an appearance at his Fifth Avenue store, where shoppers can have their purchases personalized with an exploding monogram while they shop, listen to DJ Toddlerone and drink up.
A reader came to us with what we imagine to be a fairly common dilemma: She wants to invest in a quality designer handbag, but also wants to make sure she picks one that is worth the exorbitant price tag. We think handbags are a little more important than other “investment pieces” (like shoes) and thus require even more careful consideration.
Unless you can afford to buy a new it bag every season, you want one that will withstand the passing of trends and continue to look amazing for years to come. We also think it’s important that you really, really love it and aren’t just buying it for status or–not that we think we have that much influence–because it’s on this list.
Also, remember that just because it’s marked down doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the bag for you. Lauren advises, “Don’t buy a bag that’s on sale unless it’s the one you really want. If you’re going to spend a lot of money regardless, pay full price for something you’ll love for a long time. I know from experience.” Here are five very expensive but, in our opinion, very worth it, handbags.

Mayor Bloomberg Talks Fashion’s Night Out While Anna Wintour, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Other CFDA Members Stand There
After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.
Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.
Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.
Just kidding – sort of.
