The Proenza Schouler/Andrew Rosen Deal Might Finally Go Through

The Proenza Schouler/Andrew Rosen Deal Might Finally Go Through

Looks like Proenza Schouler and Andrew Rosen are finally teaming up.

It’s been over a year since we first learned that Theory ceo Rosen was interested in buying Proenza Schouler. The label is part-owned by Permira Group, a London investment firm that also owns Valentino. Permira put its 45% stake in Proenza on the block in February of 2010.

At the beginning of 2011, we heard that the deal had been penned for months but that Permira wasn’t happy with the terms, resulting in severe delays.

Then Mark Holgate pretty much confirmed on the pages of Vogue that it was all happening!

Now WWD reports that it is indeed happening, probably by the end of this month. The partnership will be structured similarly to the agreements Rosen has with Rag & Bone and Alice and Olivia, which are also personal investments. Rosen runs Theory and Helmut Lang, but they’re owned by Uniqlo.

Fashion News Roundup: Steve Madden Now Controls Betsey Johnson, Rag & Bone Gets Control of Their Graffiti Problem and Pilati Not Done At YSL

Madden’s Control: Steve Madden has increased his stake in Betsey Johnson from a $48.8 million loan to ownership of the brand’s intellectual property. Through licensing deals with Betsey Johnson LLC, Madden will get royalties from Johnson’s firm and its other licensees. {WWD, subscription required}

Calling All Aspiring Muralists: Rag & Bone hopes to solve their newest store’s unwanted graffiti dilemma by taking matters into their own hands. Sick of phrases like “You Would” and “F*** Africa” being tagged on the large white space underneath “Rag & Bone Bids Farewell to Cafe Colonial…,” they will hold a competition where artists can submit their work for consideration. The art will be voted on by Rag & Bone’s Facebook fans and the winner will be provided with all necessary painting materials and a $1000 store credit. Check out their site for more info. {Rag & Bone}

Major Shuffling in Paris?
The rumor mill is running wild following speculation that Stefano Pilati is done at YSL. Apparently, that is untrue, at least for the next 3 years, which is the length of the contract he just signed. There are also rumors that Karl Lagerfeld will retire from Chanel after his 30th anniversary in 2012 and be replaced by Alber Elbaz, whose position at Lanvin will then be filled by Oliver Theyskens. Lagerfeld retiring?? What? {Hint}

Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue

Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.

Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.

Fashion News Roundup: Rag & Bone Documentary, RISD Fashion Show and @Fashionweeknyc Revealed

P.S. I Live Here: As it turns out, the design talents of Erica Domesek of PS I Made This are not limited to clothes and accessories. A tour of her Gramercy Park loft reveals customized vintage subway signs, a laundry basket made into a coffee table, an entire wall of craft supplies and cool inspiration boards. {Casasugar}

Rag & Bone Documentary: Apparently, The September Issue’s R.J. Cutler made a short documentary about the preparations for Rag & Bone’s Fall 2010 runway show. Weirdly, the film is sponsored by Starbuck’s and will be available to view on Frappuccino.com as well as Rag & Bone’s website. There will also be a screening at the Crosby Street Hotel on September 8th. {WWD via Refinery29}

Mysterious Fashion Twitterer
Revealed: @Fashionweeknyc has been discovered. It turns out “she” is a “he.” Nathan Stobezki runs a website called myownrunway.com, calls himself a “Fashion Tweetologist,” like, on Linked In, and boasts such Facebook interests as stock trading, venture capital and, of course, fashion. {Racked}

Mayor Bloomberg Talks Fashion’s Night Out While Anna Wintour, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Other CFDA Members Stand There

After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.

Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.

Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.

Just kidding – sort of.

As we already reported, Vogue will be staging the biggest fashion show ever on September 7. As follow up, there will also be a CBS special on the 14 and a FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode on the 20.

But what about the day of? Not everyone’s plans are 100% locked down yet, although we’ve been getting scoops from a few retailers from NYC to Berlin and we just couldn’t wait to share! It’s never too early to start preparing for fashion’s biggest party, right?

Rag & Bone to Launch E-Commerce

Hot on the heels of its latest New York boutique opening, Rag & Bone will launch e-commerce in the not-so-distant future, according to sources close to the company.

CFDA Award-winning duo David Neville and Marcus Waingwright are the latest in a string of contemporary designers to launch their own e-boutiques, and we think it’s the right choice–it’s good for both the consumer and the company.

Rag & Bone Bids Farewell to Café Colonial and Hello to Nolita

It’s no secret that we at Fashionista heart Rag & Bone and while we were more than a little disappointed by Café Colonial’s closing, we don’t blame Rag & Bone (we blame Keith McNally). And we can’t really be mad about one of our favorite brands opening up shop two blocks away from our office.

The store opens to the public this Friday, but we got a sneak peak yesterday afternoon. It feels a lot like the other Rag & Bone stores, but a little more bare bones – the clothing was sparse on the racks. We were told, however, that the store was not completely finished and would have a few more racks, a denim wall, and seating by opening day. We sensed a bit of scrambling.
