We already know Riccardo Tisci finds inspiration in streetwear culture–after all, it’s thanks to him (and maybe Kanye West) that Givenchy became a hit on the scene. But maybe Tisci got a little too inspired this season.
In lieu of casting supermodels like Gisele and Stella Tennant, as he’s done in past seasons, designer Riccardo Tisci enlisted the help of his friends to front his spring campaign.
Though when you’ve got friends like Tisci‘s, who needs campaign models?

Beyoncé ruled July magazines, with covers for both Dazed and Confused and W. Strangely both featured her in Givenchy’s AW11 collection (because she’s fierce?), so we must ask: would you rather see B eat ice cream in Dazed or recline like a diva in W? Either way, she looks great.
Paris–Fashion is never just about physical clothes: it’s the manner that physical clothes conceal the human body and reveal the clothed body to others. A great fashion show is one that evokes our emotions, one that provokes and questions our consensus and our ideals. More importantly, fashion is an emotional reaction to how the clothes look and feel on oneself and on others.
For anyone who has followed Riccardo Tisci’s work on menswear since his debut show in July 2008, the opening look–a long sleeved black shirt and shorts with bull dog prints, worn with opaque tights and leather high tops–has a ring of familiarity. They remind us of the black wool jacket, leather shorts, black knee tights and sneakers from back then. This silhouette and others–a chocolate knee length coat, leather vest worn with brown shorts, leggings and camel leather sneakers, a brown beaver short coat with dark brown shorts and lace up thigh high leather sneakers–are now Givenchy men’s signature looks. In street talk, Mr. Tisci owned them.
Rumors swirl season upon season that Stefano Pilati is done at Yves Saint Laurent. Pilati replaced Tom Ford in the mid-aughts, and while some of his collections have been lauded, others have been slammed. What’s more, Pilati is known for being a pain-in-the-rear. He’s a party boy, and he doesn’t like playing nice.
Now the New York Post, via Fashion Wire Daily, reports that Spring 2011 might really, truly, be the end of the road for Pilati. But the collection was undeniably strong. And the shoes will certainly be a best-seller. So we think he still has more time.
However, if Pilati is leaving, who will succeed him?
It might be May, but fashion’s diving head first into fall.
