Richard Nicoll

Thanks to a grand endorsement from Carine Roifeld, Hakaan Yildirim was already a name to know when he received France’s prestigious ANDAM award in 2010. “We’re in Harvey Nichols, Colette, Opening Ceremony–it’s nearly 26 stockists internationally!” he told Fashionista at the awards ceremony in Paris last October.

Now it’s time for another up-and-comer to take advantage of the prize, i.e. €220,000, a mentorship with former Chloe chief exec Ralph Toledano, and the chance to show at Paris Fashion Week. This year’s nominees include Jeremy Laing, Adam Kimmel, Anthony Vaccarello, Commuun, Matthew Harding, and Yiqing Yin. The judges? Pierre Berge, Hillary Alexander, Emmanuelle Alt, Nicole Phelps, Sarah Lerfel from Colette, and Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony, to name a few.

Tuesday, Sep 28, 2010 / 5:30 PM

Sharp pleats are everywhere–some more, please.

London Spring 2011 was hands down my favorite fashion week ever. Shocked, are you? Once you feel the energy, see the masterful technique, and find yourself wide-eyed by the innovation, you’ll understand where I’m coming from. Here are my ten favorites.

Additionally, I must send out a big thanks to Swarvoski, not only because they sponsored my trip to the UK, but also because they underwrote almost all of the very best shows at LFW. If not for them, some of these collection mightn’t have happened.

The FNO buzz is out of control, with retailers worldwide throwing lavish parties and bringing out the big guns to attract shoppers. While Bergdorf’s and Barneys’ bashes are the most elaborate, not everyone wants to stand in crowded rooms shuffling for fun.

Here are some of the best smaller events that are sure to be a blast. There’s everything from DVF’s high tech bash to Kiki de Montparnasse’s kinky party to yoga at Adidas for those who just want to relax.

When I’m sitting at a show, especially after 30 straight days of fashion shows, I get so distracted by a particular person that I forget to watch the clothes. Yesterday, at Richard Nicoll’s Cerruti debut, the venue was barely filled. Not because the industry isn’t interested in what he does with the Italian house, but [...]

Next season’s buzz (too soon?) will surely revolve around Marios Schwab’s debut collection for Halston. But there’s another Brit with exciting news — Richard Nicoll’s just been appointed Cerruti’s women’s wear designer. The old Italian house, founded by Nino Cerruti (who’s still very much alive) in the late 50s (women’s came ten years later), was [...]

Last season, one couldn’t squeeze into a show without being knocked around by a pair of expensive shoulders. Though the Balmain or Margiela or any shoulder interpretation of the two have stuck around here and there, SS10′s featured a healthy crop of anti-shoulders so far. Designers ranging from Richard Nicoll to the team at Topshop, [...]

In Vogue: We’re a sucker for epic young Hollywood portfolios in any magazine, but Teen Vogue‘s is always styled best and has the most fashion – this time around that includes Alia Shawkat, maybe better known as Maeby Fünke, who happens to be co-hosting Rachel Antonoff’s SS10 presentation. {TeenVogue} London Bound: Christopher Bailey talks to [...]
