Marilyn Monroe Exhibit Draws Classy Fash Crowd: No angel-wing-and-thong ensembles here. A collection of rare photos of the ill-fated starlet titled Picturing Marilyn opened last night at Milk Gallery to a stylish group including Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam, and Georgina Chapman. Dree Hemingway had the honor of wearing a stunning Dior-created replica of the black dress worn my Ms. Monroe in her “Last Sitting” photographs. {WWD}

Armani Opens New Hotel, Wishes He Were an Architect: Giorgio Armani, who has just opened his newest luxury hotel in Milan and has plans for several others in Paris, New York, and London, says that he wishes he could “have a fresh start as an architect.” If only the 77-year-old had the eternal youth of fellow Italian Roberto Cavalli, he’d still have at least 43 years to make that dream a reality. {Telegraph}

Pop Stars Go Waaay Old School in Classic Paintings: Ever wondered what Beyonce would look like in Queen Elizabeth’s clothes? Or daydreamed about Justin Bieber in blue velvet 18th Century pantaloons? Lindsay Wixson Says ‘Au Revoir’ to Paris Fashion Week: The young model left Paris earlier this week after suffering from an allergic reaction caused by make-up. No particular show was blamed but we can’t imagine a face full of red make up at Victor & Rolf was good for anyone’s skin. Wixson will be missed at upcoming major shows like McQueen and Vuitton. {Vogue UK}

Armani’s Spring Collection On Screen: Giorgio Armani is the latest designer to jump on the fashion on film bandwagon. The film, entitled “The Color of the Night,” features Karen Elson in Armani’s flowing ‘Le Femme Bleue’ collection. Stills from the video can be found in the march issue of Interview. {Interview Magazine}

Lily Allen to Wed in Chanel: After starring in a Chanel handbag campaign and singing live at the house’s Spring 2010 runway show, it’s no surprise that Lily Allen has turned to Karl Lagerfeld to design her wedding dress. PARIS–So I’ve landed in fashion’s beloved city, and I’m seeing Dries van Noten, Gareth Pugh, and Rochas later on today, but amidst the 90-plus shows are a gazillion good parties. Here’s a sampling of what’s on. If you’re in town, these are what you don’t want to miss:

Roberto Cavalli’s 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Party: Tonight
The Cavalli maison is turning 40, and celebrating with a grand party at Ecole des Beaux-Arts. There will be “special performances,” which we’re betting will include Leonna Lewis and Taylor Swift, who both sat front row at the designer’s Milan show.

Vogue Paris’ 90th Anniversary Gala: September 30
Carine’s tome is turning 90, so expect this to be the best-looking party of the week. Oh, and it’s a costume ball. So wear a mask.

An astute reader sent us a tip yesterday that really caught our attention.

Spring 2010 sparked a bit of Miu Miu mania, so it’s not surprising that many people have ripped off Ms. Prada’s fanciful collection.

However, back in the fall of 2008, Roberto Cavalli used a similar quirky print motif throughout his Just Cavalli show.

This morning, WWD published a story about models edging out celebrities in fall campaigns. The publication says that European houses have booked more models than celebrities for their recent ads, and that American houses—which tend to favor models over celebrities, anyways—will likely continue in this vein for fall as well. The one exception? Madonna for [...]

Having trouble staying up to date on all the shows? “Cavalli’s show owed a debt to Marc Jacobs’s notorious Grunge collection for Perry Ellis. But what a difference fifteen years makes in fashion! What was shockingly anarchic in 1993 now looks effortlessly chic. Here the spring Dust Bowl thirties chiffon dress and Liberty-print shirt are [...]

Wishin’ and Hopin’: If I could look like this in ripped tights and a sweater for, oh, even five minutes…life would be good. {Topshop} Modeling Dynasty: So Cara Delevingne got a modeling contract too. But we’re more interested in the fact that Alexis Carrington is her godmother. {Vogue UK} D-Bags Unite: A little humorous reading [...]

There were a few feathers in February, mostly of the rock n’ roll variety. Black and brown ones peppered Ann Sofie Back‘s collection while William Rast decorated his punky cowboy jeans with white. They were used best in Ann Demeulemeester‘s elaborate headdresses. Meanwhile, they’ve translated rather funny for fall. We embrace feathers in general – [...]

Quote of the Day

“‘I’m quite solitary at the moment,’ he [Roberto Cavalli] continues. ‘People like to see me as this big party guy. If I say I’m here alone, they don’t like it.’ That said, he isn’t exactly alone. Cavalli keeps a miniature monkey in a King Kong size cage and his German shepherd has the run of [...]
