Fashion News Roundup: Sexy Spy Anna Chapman Is Now A Topless Doll, Dolce Vita For Target, And Rodarte Makes Us Want To Be Ballerinas

The Spy Who Was Sold Separately: Hands-down sexiest lady in the recent Russian spy bust, Anna Chapman’s likeness has now been cast in plastic, and is available for purchase at Herobuilders.com. The (bizarrely muscular) Chapman doll is available in both a jeans-wearing, ass-kicking version and a topless seductress model. {New York Daily News}

A Sweet Life Indeed: New fall fashions threatening to hurt your bank account? Don’t fret! Dolce Vita’s line for Target will drop on August 22, to the sounds of simultaneous swoons from shopaholics and wallets. {Racked NY}

No Ugly Ducklings Here: As if you needed another reason to fantasize about a closet full of Rodarte… the first images of the sisters’ costume designs for Aronofsky’s new ballet-thriller flick Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, have surfaced. {Fashionologie}

Fashion News Roundup: Billy’s Big Win, Crystal Renn on the Today Show and Mrs. Obama Honors Rodarte

We Heart Billy Reid: It’s been a few months since Billy Reid was named GQ‘s Best Menswear Designer of the Year, but we insist you check out this video GQ just posted. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at the exclusive presentation of each designer’s collection to the judges. Watch ’til the end when Billy is presented with the grand prize. He’s so happy and even starts to tear up! It’s too cute. {GQ.com}

Crystal Renn’s Today Show Confessions: The fashion world has been in a tizzy over (fomerly?) plus size model Crystal Renn’s apparent weight loss. The model went on the Today Show to dispel and explain. She says those Fashion for Passion photos were retouched to make her look like a size two, that she has been doing a new exercise routine, and that she’s been in recovery from anorexia for seven years. {The Cut}

Kelly Cutrone’s Books Need Their Own Section: Yes, Kelly Cutrone is working on a second book, tentatively titled Yes I Said That. But she doesn’t want this book to end up where her last one did–in the self-help section. “My idea is that there should be a section called ‘Journey’ and when my book comes out in May, I want it to be in [this] new section.” {People Style Watch}

Fashion News Roundup: More Crystal Renn Controversey, Bed Bugs Invade Victoria’s Secret, and Lanvin Lands Stateside

“Renn”ovating The Industry: Crystal Renn sure has been leaving her mark on the fashion industry lately. The size-10 model recently landed a spot in Jean Paul Gaultier’s new campaign, and came under fire for looking slimmer in a Nicholas Routzen-shot campaign for non-profit Fashion for Passion. Glamour’s got the un-retouched photos as well as an interview with Renn, and she says of the photos “in the new pictures…well, that body doesn’t look like my body. It doesn’t.” If that isn’t enough, Renn is now talking of designing her own plus-sized collection. Phew, when does she sleep? {Glamour and Stylelist}

MAC Misstep?: MAC’s Mexico-inspired collaboration collection with Rodarte is set to drop on September 15, but not everyone is excited. The line is coming under some criticism for a nail polish color called “Juarez,” named after a Mexican town notorious for ignoring the rampant rapes and murders of local women. {The Frisky}

Best Dressed: Julianne is Elegant in Erdem while Kirsten and Camilla Sport Sweet Sundresses

This week, the beautiful Julianne Moore wore a gorgeous Erdem gown while Camilla Belle kept it short and sweet in Dior. Kirsten Dunst took a casual stroll through SoHo in an awesome Miu Miu dress while another blond rocked the red carpet in blue Rodarte. Freida Pinto can’t not look gorgeous, but this Oscar de la Renta number certainly doesn’t hurt.

Fashion News Roundup: NYT‘s Hearts Rodarte But Not Neighborhoodies, More From American Apparel, And The Dark Side Of Organic

New York Times Versus Neighborhoodies Versus Rodarte: When Rodarte released its New York Herald Tribune tee as a tribute to the cult-classic film Breathless, apparently they forgot the cliché that there are no new ideas. T-shirt underdogs Neighborhoodies had already been producing a near-exact doppleganger of the shirt for years– minus the ghosted-out “Rodarte” text, of course. Neighborhoodies is now in a legal kerfuffle with The New York Times, but the Times may not have much of a case. We expect the newspaper giant to emerge from the conflict with no winnings and some bad press–as they say, no news is good news. {Racked}

The Un-Cuddly Facts About Organic Cotton: Hipster mommies and daddies everywhere wouldn’t dream about putting their little Emmett/Regina/Asbury in anything other than 100% pure organic cotton, but they may not realize that the kid’s going to have a hell of a complex when he grows up. According to Time magazine, the insecticide restrictions necessitated by the “organic” label are putting babies in Africa at an even higher risk for Malaria, a disease that’s already wreaking havoc on Uganda. Let’s hope the newly-pregnant Stella McCartney avoids this trap….{Ecouterre}

Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love

Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love

With the release of Hole’s album in 12 years and new(ish) ramblings about being Kate Moss’s lover, it seems that Courtney Love has found a way to fling herself, tick-like, into the media once again.

So, in an attempt to stay sane as Courtney’s face continues to plague us, we proudly present: Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love. (And they said it couldn’t be done!)

1. She shops indie.
Though she caught onto Etsy.com at least three years after the rest of us, we have to give her a hand for supporting all things handmade. Courtney has name-dropped a few of her favorite Etsy designers on numerous occasions, and one seller even implied that Courtney was downright easy to work with. We’ll have to check with her bandmates on that one, but at least she’s supporting independent designers. BoudoirQueen and Liaison seem to be among her faves.

Branding at Its Best: Eleven Special Items to Obsess Over

The printed tote. The logo tee. These are items that many luxury brands create to keep the public going gaga over their pricier goods. Creating trinkets, tees, totes, and more helps keep brands in the public eye; more people can afford a Marc Jacobs key ring than a collection dress.

That said, a lot of luxury brands’ special items still sell at a high price (see Chanel’s bike), and exist to give a greater meaning to the term “lifestyle brand.”

Either way, there are tons of special items created by our favorite designers that we regularly obsess over and attempt to pool our funds to buy. Click through to see the best of what we think constitutes the “fashionable life.”

Learning the Art of Rodarte

Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte are fashion’s most famous sisters. From their nearly telepathic communication with each other, to their unusually intimate inspiration, the Mulleavys have built a Rodarte cult including fashion’s most elite and influential. Last night at FIT, Kate and Laura spoke at length about their brand. Hearing them talk about their Read more →
