Fashion News Roundup: Kate Moss’s Arm is Paralyzed, Jude Law’s Daughter Wears a Controversial Dress, and Uggs on the Sartorialist?

Kate Moss’s Arm is Paralyzed: Don’t freak out! It’s only temporary. Lady Kate woke up in the Ritz Paris this past weekend to find herself unable to move her right arm and hand. Apparently the condition is caused by ulnar nerve entrapment, which, while nowhere near permanent, can take several months to totally disappear. Which means it might be a while till KM can work again– though, with all the photoshopping that goes on, it probably wouldn’t be much of a problem to edit Kate’s limp limb. {Daily Mail}

Jude Law’s Daughter’s Conversation-Starting Dress: 12-year-old Iris Law attended Vivienne Westwood’s show, with mum Sadie Frost, wearing a little babydoll Peter Pan-collared dress covered in a conversation hearts print. Sounds adorable, right? Except that, upon closer inspection, the sugary hearts read some not-so-sweet phrases like ‘Blow Me,’ ‘Please Drown,’ and our favorite, ‘Eat Shit.’ Sadie later apologized to the disapproving public via Twitter, claiming the oversight was a #genuinemistake. {Styleite}

High-End Retailers Are Doing Better Than Wal-Mart: For the ninth straight quarter, budget retail giant Wal-Mart is reporting major profit losses. But higher-end stores like Saks and Blommingdale’s have reported increasing profits, with customers spending more on such luxury goods as high-priced jewelry. It seems that Wal-Mart reduced its prices so sharply over the holidays, it actually lost profit. Would raising its prices and quality of goods (with Macy’s and Target-like collaborations, for example) help or hurt Wal-Mart? {New York Times}

Markus Lupfer Brings Resort, A Film Starring Florence Welch, and a Good Dose of Humor to NYC

Markus Lupfer is another one of these great London-based designers poised to break into the American market in a big way. His fun, knitwear-heavy line is sold in several stores in the UK, Shopbop, Net-a-porter, Opening Ceremony, and has just been picked up by Neiman Marcus and Barneys—perhaps two of the most important retail doors this side of the Atlantic Ocean. He has done collaborations with Cacharel and Mulberry and found fans in girls like Daisy Lowe, Lily Allen, Alexa Chung and Florence Welch.

The latter actually starred in Markus’ latest project, a short film directed by Tabitha Denholm, in which Welch, Irina Lazareanu, Sadie Frost, Mary Charteris, Valentine Fillol-Cordier, Margo Stilley, Jan DeVilleneuve, Liddie Holt and Gary Card, play characters with bizarre afflictions and personality disorders. Called The Puzzle of the Mysterious Mind, the humorous, tongue-in-cheek film is meant to have the feel of a ‘60s mockumentary. Florence, for example, plays an extreme clothes hoarder while Irina is globophobic, meaning she has a fear of balloons. Each character is dressed to the nines in Markus Lupfer resort, which we got to see up close at Monday night’s screening event at the Mondrian Soho penthouse. There are many of his signature knits with fun stripes and colorful sequined embroidery, like trompe l’oeil belts and red-lipped mouths, plus a few great mini dresses.

This Norwegian One Piece Sweatsuit Has a Celeb Following

The OnePiece is, as the name implies, a one piece sweatsuit type thing out of Norway. The brand describes the garment as “unique lifestyle leisureware, all about the chill out.” It’s priced between £80 to £120, comes in bright colors, bold patterns, and is marketed to young snowboarder types rather than couch potatoes. As the photos on the site indicate, if you’re a hot young Norwegian who likes to goof around on the slopes or in a shopping cart, the OnePiece is for you. The site even notes that it’s the perfect get up for recovering from a hangover. Agreed.

OnePiece recently launched in the UK where it’s developing something of a celeb/fashiony following. Melanie Rickey, Grazia’s fashion editor-at-large, recently picked one up in Norway and tweet pic’ed her purchase noting, “Today I got this from Norway. Tomorrow I’m sending my slanket to Oxfam.” Sadie Frost and Peaches Geldof have been spotted in the onesy. According to the Daily Mail, Frost says she’s dolling them out for Christmas this year. Of course, we’ve already noted that Scandinavian brands are having a moment.

FrostFrench Wants Gemma, Now

Frost French, Sadie Frost and Jemima French’s contemporary clothing line, want Gemma Ward for an ad campaign. But they want her now, at this weight. Not later, when she’s lost it, or when she decides to get back into modeling. They want a real girl, albeit a really, really, ridiculously good-looking girl, to be the Read more →
