They say behind every great man is a great woman, and UK Prime Minister David Cameron would like you to know that’s definitely true for him, at least when it comes to his style.

As you’ve probably heard, the White House State Dinner took place Wednesday night and all anyone’s been able to talk about is Michelle Obama and British first lady Samantha Cameron’s complementary floor-length blue dresses (designed by Georgina Chapman and Alessandra Rich, respectively). The Guardian’s Jonathan Jones calls the moment a “photo op” that “will be Read more →
Last night the White House threw a state dinner to honor its Brit guests, UK prime minister David Cameron and his wife, Samantha. Also in attendance? A rather starry mix of of Obama’s well-known Hollywood and fashion supporters. Anna Wintour, who’s been very visible in her support of the President and his re-election efforts, was Read more →
Michelle Obama and Samantha Cameron (the British PM’s wife) made their first stop yesterday at the American University on their three-day tour together for the “Let’s Move” campaign–aka our three-day excuse to ogle the two stylish ladies’ unfailingly chic outfits. Cameron and Obama watched a mini-Olympics at the university’s gym, encouraging and joking with contestants. Read more →
LONDON–Upon walking into the lilac-carpeted space (this includes the walls) above a shopping mall where Christopher Kane showed his fall 2012 collection, I didn’t know what to expect. It seemed like such an upbeat, punchy shade, and his spring collection was full of color and sweetness and light and flowers.
Well, after a few looks went down the runway, I came to the realization that his fall muse was a lot darker and more sinister, and all the flowers had wilted. And it was completely thrilling.
LONDON–The Burberry show, which is the jewel in the crown of London fashion week, was held at a huge tent in Kensington Gardens, a fitting place to showcase such a quintessentially British brand. It’s also the slickest show around, and draws an always-impressive group of A-listers. Brand ambassadors Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Eddie Redmayne (sans Karlie–where Read more →
Last night’s McQ show was, if not fashion history, then certainly London Fashion Week history. The diffusion line’s first runway show brought back some of the drama of Lee McQueen’s early shows with a spectacular finale. We crunched over a carpet of thick red and gold leaves to our seats, with Anna Wintour, Salma Hayek Read more →
Burberry was the show to be at this week in London. The biggest venue we’ve been to all week–a tent set up in Kensington Gardens–was barely able to contain the star power of Kanye West (his second show of the day), Sienna Miller, Samantha “Sam Cam” Cameron, and a drop-dead-gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Fashion royalty was there, too, in the form of Anna Wintour, Olivier Theyskens, Rachel Zoe, and Mario Testino.
The show live-streamed on multiple sources (including Fashionista!) and once again the label is putting the spring goods on sale right away–though you have to wait a few months before they ship. So what would we buy?
The British Fashion Council has just announced the nominees for the 2011 British Fashion Awards, which are essentially the U.K.’s answer to our prestigious CFDA’s. The ceremony, which is scheduled for November 28, is meant to recognize the most influential people in fashion today and also promote the growth of British fashion.
With all the attention the U.K. has been getting lately for that stylish princess of theirs and being dubbed the “new fashion capital,” British fashion is definitely more relevant than ever this year. That may be why the BFC has decided to re-introduce the Red Carpet award, which “gives recognition to a British designer who is creating global awareness of their designs in the media.”
From Kim Jones to Stella McCartney to Erdem, here are all the nominees:
Model Jade Parfitt looked cool and ladylike in Christopher Kane. Alexa Chung went casual for the Burberry show, making her Burberry Brights bag the star. Lou Doillon mixed Club Monaco and vintage effortlessly. Our new best friend Samantha Cameron pulled off Christopher Kane with aplomb. And Clemence Poesy made us all want to wear Mulberry forever. London’s street style is tops! xo, Fashionista
