Model-o-philes get ready to have a mini freak out: Prada’s 2013 spring campaign is here and the cast is pretty “maj.” It stars many vets who haven’t starred in a campaign in a while, some Prada campaign alums, and some newer faces we’re sure you’ll be seeing more of.

If you checked out the September cover of Elle Germany and thought, “Wow, that looks remarkably like a jewelry ad,” that’s because it is.
Commenters at The Fashion Spot were quick to point out that, while it’s certainly a glowing photo of Sasha Pivovarova, it was also an ad for Tiffany & Co – in 2008.
Beauty and fame often go hand-in-hand, so it makes sense that models and actresses seem to be forever trading places.
The latest model to make the jump to acting is Erin Wasson, who we got a first look at in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter today. And she’s following in the footsteps of some of acting’s biggest names, like Mila Jovovich and Cameron Diaz, who got their start as models. But while the model-turned-actress is certainly not a new breed, there seem to have been even more slashes emerging recently: Gemma Ward, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Brooklyn Decker, for instance, have all made the jump. And the new Mad Max movie (Mad Max: Fury Road) is almost cast entirely with models: former model Charlize Theron and more current ones Abbey Lee and Rosie Huntington Whitely are all set to star.
And while the model/actress transition is certainly not rare–it can be hard to pull off (see: Cindy Crawford in Fair Game).

We were really excited when we saw how amazingly fierce Tilda Swinton looked all drag queened-out on the cover of Candy Magazine #4. Little did we know that this juicy little gem was lingering within the pages: “Baby Boom,” shot by Steven Klein and styled by Patti Wilson, features bondage-sporting male models making out, playing Read more →

All in one week, we get another pregnant naked model picture and a new model mommy: Congrats to Sasha Pivovarova and hubby photographer Igor Vishnyakov, who welcomed a baby girl (their first child) over the weekend. She’s really been keeping this pregnancy under wraps.
When Anna Wintour referred to relatively little-known model Arizona Muse in her last February’s editor’s letter as a “gorgeous, smart, grown-up” and compared her to the likes of modeling giants Linda Evangelista and Natalia Vodianova, we knew the modeling world was in for something big. It’s been quite the landmark year for Muse. Top campaigns, extensive runway presence, big covers, and now another feather in her cap — the number one model in Vogue.
Hundreds of models are cast every year in the pages of international editions of Vogue, and when we tallied the results of their work it quickly became obvious who came out on top in 2011. Quantity and quality must be accounted for to make the top 10. Not only must a models’ appearances be plentiful, but the quality of those appearances must be stellar as well. This includes factors like only-girl editorials, the caliber of photographers they work with and editions they’re in, and their number of overall pages. Arizona’s scoresheet was predictably well-rounded. She worked with the best photographers, scored the most solo editorials and graced enough pages to fill an entire August issue all on her own (that’s about 220 for those of you keeping track). She started the year with a bang by starring in only-girl editorials for Vogue China, Italia, Paris, UK and US, and that was in just one month!
It’s an unusual feat for a model to skyrocket to the extent Arizona has since she hit the international scene last year, and while we’re thrilled for her success, we wonder if it’ll stick. While Muse has the novelty (and sometimes the curse) of it-girl status, it remains to be seen whether she’ll be blessed with longevity, the true mark of a great and successful model. We are looking forward to what the new year will bring for her.

Prabal Gurung Designs Uniforms For Sephora: Why couldn’t this happen while we were working retail? For the first time since 2001, the cosmetics and beauty retailer is changing their uniform, and using the talents of Prabal Gurung to make their staff look fresh ta def. WWD reports the new uniform choices will include a “black shift dress with red trim and a fitted black pantsuit with red accents for women, and a black shirt, black sweater with red accents and black pants for men.” Haute! {WWD Subscription required}
Jennifer Garner Is so Adorable on InStyle: The actress and soon-to-be mommy x3 covers the January issue of the glossy. But she doesn’t think she’s as cute as we do (!): “I wish I was one of those cute pregnant girls who wear skinny jeans throughout their pregnancies. But I just gain weight.” You’re pregnant! You’re supposed to! {JustJared}
Speaking of Skinny Jeans During Pregnancy–Sasha Pivovarova Is Possibly Pregnant: The Russian model is three months pregnant with her first child. Congratulations to Sasha and her husband, Igor Vishnyakov! That kid is gonna have some mean cheekbones! {Belfast Telegraph}
It isn’t enough that supermodel Sasha Pivovarova has a legitimate career as a painter or that she’s set to make her acting debut in In Time with Justin Timberlake, now the Russian beauty is taking yet another step outside the bounds of her model job description to design a line for the Gap, Vogue UK is reporting. Sigh, is there anything this woman can’t do? (And look impossibly gorgeous while doing it?)
The sleepwear and lingerie collection will consist of six pieces, including underwear sets, camisoles, nightdresses and boyshorts, all of which are inspired by fairy tales. Given Sasha‘s background as a painter, we’re guessing she might have had a hand in creating the botanical-inspired print that covers the line.
Earlier this week, I stopped by a Soho showroom to check out the spring 2012 collections of Eryn Brinié and Kai-Aakmann. Both are chic, modern, affordable brands based out of Korea that we’ve really, really liked ever since they arrived stateside around 2008.
Eryn Brinié (which is not an actual person, but a name meant to evoke the Parisian feel of the brand) even had a store on the main drag of Broadway in Soho for a while, which sadly closed last year. Seeing Eryn Brinié‘s spring collection made me even more sad that I wouldn’t be able to just pop into a store (which happened to be just 4 blocks from our office) and buy the whole thing next spring. I wanted everything. It was all pared back, sweet, feminine pastel perfection. Highlights include a peachy double-breasted slouchy silk blazer, a knee-length grey dress with subtle pleating, a black bias cut dress with sheer draping on the shoulders and a simple The Row-esque white maxi skirt. The best part: it’s all under $300.
So what happened to the store?
