Remember the spring 2012 shows? If you need a refresher, look no further than Zara‘s spring 2012 collection, which will be rolling into stores shortly (we’re usually thrown off by spring clothes hitting stores in February, but with today’s bizarre 60 degree weather, it’s actually pretty appropriate). We’re not going to call out Zara for knocking off any specific designers, but the spring trends are there: mixed prints (especially bold florals), pastels, high slits, baggy silhouettes and mesh, to name a few.

2011 was definitely the year of the model. Models gained influence in pop culture, with new TV shows, documentaries, and larger features in magazines. It looks like editors will have to fight for their right to call themselves the “new models.”
And there were certainly enough big news stories to keep models in the headlines. From Kate Moss’ wedding to Jamie Hince, to a crop of new girls who instantly zoomed to the top, to both Karlie Kloss’ and Andrej Pejic’ topless photos that caused minor scandals, there’s been a lot to talk about in modeling.

The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we’re still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there’s still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography.

The Pirelli calendar–otherwise known as the classiest pin-up girly calendar ever–is an annual tradition for those lucky few VIPs who find it in their mailboxes. It’s traditionally shot by world-renowned fashion photographers (Karl Lagerfeld last year, Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Terry Richardson…the list goes on and on) and features A-list models and actresses. This morning we attended a press conference to preview the 2012 Pirelli calendar, and it left us feeling very warm and um, tingly.
First of all, the calendar was shot in Corsica by Mario Sorrenti, who was in attendance and who is exceptionally easy on the eyes (he’s a former model). Second of all, every single model in the calendar is as naked as the day she was born, and we were treated to a 20-minute long behind-the-scenes video documenting the shoots of all 12 models. Suffice it to say there was a lot of glistening flesh (in almost every scene an assistant is seen spritzing down the models), and a lot of come-hither looks. Here are the ladies who the lucky recipients will get to ogle in 2012: Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.
