Fashion Insiders Tell Us

How to Avoid a Fashion Week Meltdown

We’re approaching the home stretch of New York Fashion Week, which means many of our attitudes have shifted from excited and energetic to when-will-this-be-over? What Do Your Shoes Say About You? Way More Than You Think, New Study Reveals

You know that old X-rated saying, “the bigger the shoes, the bigger the…” I think you know the rest. Anyway, there’s a new study out that proves you can actually tell a whole lot about a person from his or her shoes–personality-wise, that is.

Research conducted by The University of Kansas found that, when presented with photographs of complete strangers’ footwear, people could accurately determine up to 90% of the wearer’s self-described personality traits and economical demographics.

Charlize Theron, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Aniston and More: The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Looks at the MTV Movie Awards

Last night’s MTV Movie Awards was a roller coaster of emotions and odd situations. There were inspirational happy tears (from Emma Stone, who collected the first-ever ‘Trailblazer’ award), awkward silences (c/o Kristen Stewart–who else?), juvenile penis and canine ass jokes (by host Russell Brant and presenter Andy Samberg, respectively), and even a physical threat towards Read more →

Shailene Woodley Wants You To Stop Caring About Her Five-Finger Shoes

Shailene Woodley Wants You To Stop Caring About Her Five-Finger Shoes

As I approached the Elle team (featuring Joe Zee and EIC Robbie Myers) front row at the Jason Wu show to ask them some questions, none other than Shailene Woodley plopped down in the empty seat next to Zee. In an unassuming (yet totally chic) sweater and skinny pants, she started chatting with Elle about how comfortable her shoes were. And no, they were not those five-toed shoes that made headlines after she wore them to an after party post-Golden Globes–they were sky-high Jason Wu’s, of course.

She was shockingly not swarmed by photogs, so I loitered around until she finished her conversation and took the opportunity to ask her about those shoes, her Oscar dress, and what she’s been learning at fashion week.

Honor Fall 2012: The Bold and the Beautiful

Honor Fall 2012: The Bold and the Beautiful

It’s no secret that we are big Honor fans here at Fashionista. Just about every collections Giovanna Randall has shown thus far in her relatively young career as a designer has been so beautiful and elegant that it takes our breath away. Her fall outing, inspired by “this preppy boy on his semester abroad in college and meeting an exotic woman from South or Central America and how their styles mix together” was no exception. Not that it was more of the same. The prints–a big rose print and a geometric art deco print–were new and as Randall explained, she “took it a little bid bolder” this season.

That boldness could be seen in strong reds and purples and gorgeous big box-shaped bags. Still, she mainly stuck to wearable, classic silhouettes, as she tends to do. We were actually surprised by the lack of red carpet-worthy gowns, considering her burgeoning popularity with Hollywood starlets like Kirsten Dunst and Shailene Woodley, who was in the front row looking like the low-key, five-finger shoe wearing, former American Apparel employee she truly is.
