Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue
Fashion Week

Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.

Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.

Fashion’s Night Out: Where The Major Designers Will Be

Fashion’s Night Out is two weeks from tomorrow! There is more going on than we can even wrap our heads around. Having trouble deciding where you want to go and who you want to see the most?

Well, if you’re interested in catching a peak of one of your favorite designers, here’s a roundup of where some of the biggest and the best will be on September 10. We’ve excluded most of the people we’ve already reported on. Also, it’s almost safe to say that if someone isn’t on this list, they will probably be at Barneys.

Michael Kors
Michael will be at his lifestyle store on Madison and 61st in New York City. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Idina Menzel, whom Michael will accompany on a selection of songs. Michael will also make an appearance nearby at Bloomingdale’s 59th street, where the “World of Michael” will be created to kick off a new Michael Kors handbag shop-in-shop.

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy will be kicking off FNO and his brand’s 25th anniversary at Macy’s Herald Square. As we’ve reported, Macy’s will house “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” as inspired by Tommy’s most recent ad campaign. Tommy will be accompanied by Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren. He will also make an appearance at his Fifth Avenue store, where shoppers can have their purchases personalized with an exploding monogram while they shop, listen to DJ Toddlerone and drink up.

Official Fashion’s Night Out Details Are Up: Our Top 10

The new Fashion’s Night Out website launched today and it’s pretty impressive. You can browse and search every New York event listing and even create your own itinerary.

You can also narrow the 51 pages of listings down by neighborhood, category (men, women, beauty) and/or specialty (block party, celebrity, food). But if you’re looking for, say, ten or so events that are most likely worth checking out, look no further. We reviewed each and every page to bring you the ten FNO events we’re most looking forward to.

Shipley & Halmos Fill in the Blank

Shipley & Halmos Fill in the Blank

We know them for their modern-meets-classic clothing, but we’re starting to reallize the Shipley & Halmos boys are into more than just designing our dream wardrobe. Soon, they will be book publishers. In lieu of showing this fashion week they’ve chosen take on a huge project.

Last night, we caught up with Jeff Halmos and Sam Shipley on the Women’s CO-OP floor of Barneys’ Madison Avenue store, the first stop on their “Fill In The Blank Photo Tour.” After almost four hours (two in men’s and two in women’s) of meeting with customers, the pair was exhausted. “Four hours is way too long,” we heard one of them say, with 13 days and 12 cities left to go.

In each of the cities they visit, the designers set up a professional photo booth to take pictures of willing Barneys CO-OP customers, who will also fill out a mad libs-esque questionnaire followed by a release form because, come fall, select photos and questionnaires will be compiled into book intended to create an expansive portrait of the Shipley & Halmos customer. If last night’s guests were any indication, that customer is cool and stylish and if anything the book will likely contain some great street style. We’re also pretty curious about how all those mad libs will come together. The book will be called “We’re An American ______” and will be sold at Barneys stores.

We love this idea and wanted to hear more about how it came about and what the future looks like for the young designers, so we talked to Jeff (Sam was busy playing photog).

Fashion’s Night Out Details From Around the World

Fashion’s Night Out is quickly approaching and it’s going to be huge. During the week of September 10 events will be taking place across the globe. As we already reported, Vogue will be staging the biggest fashion show ever on September 7. As follow up, there will also be a CBS special on the 14 and a FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode on the 20.

But what about the day of? Not everyone’s plans are 100% locked down yet, although we’ve been getting scoops from a few retailers from NYC to Berlin and we just couldn’t wait to share! It’s never too early to start preparing for fashion’s biggest party, right?
