Nearly a year after Tyra Banks gave him the America’s Next Top Model pink slip, J. Alexander–aka Miss J–is back in action with a brand new project: Shoes.
Holiday party season is well underway and since we already helped you pick out a pretty frock to wear, we’re turning our attention to your feet. From glittery stilettos to shiny gold platforms, we’ve got all the trends of the holiday season covered. Click through to see our picks.
Just in time for the holidays (seriously, does any other time even matter, ever? No.), our go-to for all that is boho-chic, Free People, is releasing its very first line of self-branded shoes.
Let me start by saying that the fact that ASOS has dubbed these shoes ‘Hurricane’ is an absolute and total coincidence to the timing of my purchase! The truth is, I’ve had my eyes on these fuzzy sandals for quite a while now–but maybe all that extra time cooped up at home in Brooklyn was the extra little push I needed to grab my plastic and get ‘ta clickin’.
So what exactly was it that drew me in to these babes? Ok, so it’s a bit cliched–but here goes: Carrie Bradshaw.

Barney’s NY knows that the recipe for a great evening involves shopping for shoes, charitable cause, and, of course, tasty cocktails. We told you earlier this week about the launch of their brand new co-ed shoe floor, and the festivity continued last night with a soiree celebrating Sergio Rossi’s fall collection.
The shoes were displayed like art (the whole shoe floor feels kinda like a museum–only you can touch all you want) with strappy Sergio Rossi sculptures on pedestals surrounded by bouquets of flowers. The guests were in Instagram overdrive thanks to Barney’s Perfect Pairs campaign (as in #perfectpairs), which supports the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and its Americans for Marriage Equality Program. The hardest part of the evening was trying to crop a pair of super tall, show-stopping over-the-knee boots with intricate cut-outs into the square frame (#instafail).
Though Simon Doonan was there, the man of the hour was Sergio Rossi’s charming creative director Francesco Russo. We managed to steal him away from the likes of Rachel Chandler-Guinness and Kenza Fourati for a quick chat. Read on to find out what the designer had to say about trends, inspirations and why a femme fatale is only as good as her shoes.
Kate Middleton Repeat Roundup: The Duchess of Cambridge has a habit of repeating dresses, coats, shoes and fascinators and a serious knack for making everything look just as good (if not better!) the second time around. Check out our roundup of her most-loved pieces!
Collaboration Nation: It seems that every time we check the news, another designer house has announced an upcoming collaboration or capsule collection. To keep you on your A-game, we rounded up the most notable team-ups. Is your fav in there?
Best Of Resort, Round One: Resort has turned into a veritable fashion circus, giving the RTW shows a run for their money and making it tough to keep up with collections. We’ve made life easier for you by rounding up the best of the bunch… so far.
Go Ahead, Judge A Girl By Her Shoes: A study by the University of Kansas found that the style of your favorite, most loved shoes actually reveals a lot about you. Wondering what your shoes say about you (and your favorite fashionites)? We’ve got the scoop.
You know that old X-rated saying, “the bigger the shoes, the bigger the…” I think you know the rest. Anyway, there’s a new study out that proves you can actually tell a whole lot about a person from his or her shoes–personality-wise, that is.
Research conducted by The University of Kansas found that, when presented with photographs of complete strangers’ footwear, people could accurately determine up to 90% of the wearer’s self-described personality traits and economical demographics.
Last night, Superga invited fashion’s best and brightest to celebrate their first-ever American store in SoHo–and they pulled off an impressive feat in the process, getting many of fashion’s die-hard heel-addicts, including the brand’s Creative Directors Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, to ditch their signature stilettos for Superga’s cool and classic sneaks. Hey, anything that gets us closer to wearing comfy shoes at fashion events, we can get behind!
At the event we also had a chance to chat with Steven Madden, who is responsible for bringing the classic Italian brand stateside and who has worked with the Olsens for five years, first on their Elizabeth and James shoe line and now on Superga. Madden is a pioneer–and a character–in the shoe industry and he’s certainly not one to mince words.
When asked what it was like to work with Mary-Kate and Ashley on the twins’ line of shoes for the brand, Madden said with a wry smile, “Painful. Painful.”
Christian Louboutin is about to make the (shoe) fantasies of every little girl come true–and of a few grown up ones too. The legendary shoe designer is creating his very own glass slipper–an interpretation of the famous one Cinderella wore, in celebration of Disney’s re-release of the 1950s children’s classic on Blu-Ray and DVD this Read more →
