Kanye West for Topshop?
People Are Talking

Kanye West for Topshop?

Just about every time Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green is in the same room as a famous person, he or she is suddenly rumored to be getting a Topshop line. In just the past year, it’s happened with John Galliano, Gwyneth Paltrow, Florence Welch–none of whom actually went on to design anything. So we’re naturally a bit skeptical about this latest report that rapper-turned-designer Kanye West, who has been preparing for his next Paris Fashion Week outing in London, is in talks with Green to create a Topshop range of his own.

John Galliano is Not Doing a Line For Topshop, But is Gwyneth Still a Possibility?

John Galliano is Not Doing a Line For Topshop, But is Gwyneth Still a Possibility?

Rumors began swirling this morning that John Galliano was in talks with fellow Kate Moss wedding attendee and Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green about doing a line for Topshop, which would be a pretty major collaboration. With that and the success of his wedding dress for Moss, it seemed like things were looking up for the disgraced designer. However, Green swiftly contacted British Vogue, where the rumor was first reported, to nip it in the bud. He says, “I saw John Galliano at Kate’s wedding last Friday. I did not discuss any business with him then, nor have I since.”

We’re not surprised the reports were false, since they seemed pretty unfounded. What is interesting is how quick Green was to deny the rumors, especially since he has not yet said anything about the recent Gwyneth Paltrow for Topshop ones.

Fashion News Roundup: Galliano for Topshop, Taylor Swift Wore Cornrows, and Tavi Does Sassy Performance Art

John Galliano for Topshop?: Say what?? Rumors have been circulating that the disgraced designer may do a line for Topshop. It would be a full 360 degree journey for Galliano, since he worked there as a student. Right now Green denies that any official meetings have happened, but our ears are to the ground on this one. {VogueUK}

Taylor Swift in Cornrows: For those of you who are afraid you’ll never get out of that awkward stage, take a peek at Taylor Swift working some cornrows. We suspect this isn’t a look she’s going to reprise anytime soon. {Stylelist}

Tavi Is Doing Performance Art as a Tribute to Sassy Magazine: On July 27 Tavi will perform a tribute to beloved glossy Sassy at a Brooklyn performance art space. If she were an attendee, however, she wouldn’t be allowed to go–21 and over only. {TheCut}

Are Kim Kardashian’s Bridesmaids Wearing Alexander McQueen?: Kim was spotted dropping off an Alexander McQueen gown at the dry cleaner. Could this possibly be a bridesmaid gown? We wouldn’t doubt it. The vision of Pippa’s ass in that dress will not soon be forgotten. It’s a look that bridesmaids everywhere would be happy to sport. {PopSugar}

We Hung Out With Sir Philip Green, Andrew Rosen, and Several Other Fashion Big Shots Last Night

Topshop’s Sir Philip Green. Theory honcho Andrew Rosen. Designer Kenneth Cole. HSN CEO Mindy Grossman. Put them in a room with 300 other top retail CEOs and execs and what do you get? The Financo Forum, held last night at the Harmonie Club.

The event, organized annually by Financo (the top fashion/retail investment bank), is a hot ticket for industry insiders. The lively panel discussion and networking session gives attendees the rare chance to collectively review the state of the retail industry, to share insights and to socialize with their elite peers.

The forum’s focus this year was on all things digital. Although e-commerce and social media hardly seem to be new topics, they’re something many retailers are still trying to learn more about. Financo Chairman Gilbert Harrison explained that the goal was to “help navigate the new world, and to ultimately drive sales and profits.” The panel included Ben Fischman, CEO of Rue La La, Chip Wilson, Founder/Chief Innovation and Branding Officer of Lululemon Athletica, Stephen Zangre of Facebook and Dan Schock of Google, and was moderated by CNBC anchor Nicole Lapin.

A few key takeaways:

Fashion News Roundup: Maggie Rizer Blogs About Her Dogs, Natalie Portman’s Fiance/Baby Daddy Modeled for Mango and Rihanna To Create A Line For Topshop?

Rihanna To Replace Kate Moss at Topshop?: Rihanna recently had lunch with Topshop’s Sir Philip Green in Barbados so now the Daily Mail is speculating that they might have been discussing a Topshop line for the singer. Um…seems like a bit of a stretch. {Daily Mail}

Maggie Rizer Blogs About Her Pups: Maggie Rizer has three golden retrievers–Henry, Albert and Beatrice–and she’s started blogging about them on her site, Bea Makes Three. Cute golden retrievers and models? This is a blog we can get behind. Especially if she brings a kitten into the mix. {Modelinia}

Benjamin Millepied Modeled for Mango: Before he became Natalie Portman’s fiance/baby daddy, the City ballet dancer and choreographer did some modeling. {The Cut}

Another Spice Girl Launches a Line: Watch out Posh. Baby Spice Geri Halliwell has launched a swimwear line, ‘Geri by Next.’ Somehow we doubt she’ll encroach on Beckham’s reign as the most fashion-y Spice Girl. {Daily Mail}

Kate Moss To Launch New Line…Of Jams

Kate Moss To Launch New Line…Of Jams

No, Kate Moss has not gone plum crazy. She’s just crazy for plums, apparently. And making them into jam.

The supermodel is reportedly turning her preserve-making hobby into an official line of jams called Kate’s Damson Jam (a damson is a type of plum). Even daughter Lila Grace, seven, is helping out to make jam with mum up at their Cotswold estate, according to UK tab The Sun.

“It started as a hobby, but she’s taking it a lot more seriously after glowing feedback from friends and family,” a source told The Sun. “She’s hoping her plum conserve will be a hit with the public.” The paper also reports that Moss has asked Sir Philip Green and Simon Cowell for their feedback and help in stocking her plum product.
