New York is unreasonably cold right now. Like impending-blizzard-freeze-your-Rag & Bone-covered-butt-off cold. This is exactly why we, and fashionistas nowhere near New York, are praising the fashion gods (more like IMG & various PR people) for the glorious amount of New York fashion week shows livestreaming this week. We wrangled 89 shows (89!) and presentations to tune into over the course of the next week…with even more coming in! The best part? You won’t be judged for taking in these shows in your pjs over some popcorn or pizza or half a bottle of wine…

Sophie Theallet Wins $100,000 as the U.S. Recipient of the Woolmark Prize

The International Woolmark Award, which both Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld won back in the 1950s, is back.

This year Woolmark re-launched its international design competition, starting with regional competitions in the US, China, Australia, India, Italy, the U.K. and France. The company–part of a not-for-profit owned by 30,000 Australian wool growers–has a long history of supporting fashion designers. The winner of each regional contest, which is for emerging designers or those with small businesses, gets $100,000 in the US and $50,000 in the other regions, according to WWD.

In the US, the judging happened today and Sophie Theallet was named the winner.

Gap Reveals Its Annual CDFA Collaboration, Featuring Incredible Designs by Monique Péan, Patrik Ervell and Sophie Theallet

When CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners and nominees design for Gap, two things happen:

1. The piece goes down in history. (Like Philip Lim’s white blouse, Alex Wang’s khaki motorcycle jacket, or Vena Cava’s printed dress.)

2. The piece is completely forgotten. (For this, we have no examples, because we can’t remember them.)

Rest assured, this season’s designs–including jewelry by Monique Péan, menswear by Patrik Ervell, and women’s wear by Sophie Theallet–are almost guaranteed to fall into the first category.

CFDA Fashion Incubator Designers Announced

This morning, WWD announced the 12 designer tenants occupying CFDA’s Fashion Incubator, a group of studios at 209 West 38th Street in New York’s Garment District. Because of a $200,000 grant from the City of New York, renting the 800 to 1,000 square foot spaces will will only cost the chosen designers $1,500 to $2,000 Read more →

The ceremony featured a keynote address from Alber Elbaz, who co-hosted with Nicole Kidman and told the crowd, “Success is like a bottle of perfume.
