Editorial Musical Chairs: Filipa Fino Out at Vogue, W Loses Carolyn Tate Angel and More

WWD broke the news yesterday that Vogue‘s senior accessories editor Filipa Fino suddenly left the magazine after 11 years with the company. The following statement was included in the trade publication’s initial report, but has since been mysteriously removed: “Sources hinted that Fino’s departure could allegedly be tied to some inappropriate behavior on her part.”

There may be some truth to that statement. Multiple sources within Conde Nast and beyond have relayed to us that Fino acted unprofessionally in regards to the fashion closet and expenses.

No word yet on who will replace Fino. We reached out to Conde Nast for additional comment, but they declined to elaborate. Fino’s exit was only one of many recent shakeups within Conde Nast.

Coincidentally another of Conde Nast’s senior editors was just axed–W‘s senior fashion market editor Carolyn Tate Angel.

Fashionista 50: The Most Influential People in New York Fashion

Fashionista 50: The Most Influential People in New York Fashion

How do you measure influence?

Is it through website hits? Or sales? Through ad dollars? Or the number of mass retailers who’ve knocked off your work?

The answer is all of the above and none of the above. Influence is an intangible thing that just happens when you know your craft and you work hard at it.

To determine who belongs in the Fashionista 50–our list of the most influential people working in New York fashion–we used our own knowledge of the industry, combined with advice from industry sources. We also considered each candidate’s consumer reach–through sales, media, etc.

To be considered, candidates had to live and work in New York for most of the year.

What’s Fashionista’s definition of influential? It describes people who are shaping the direction of the New York fashion industry, both aesthetically and in terms of how the business works.

You’ll find the entire Fashionista 50 list after the jump. Click on the person’s name to read a full bio. And if you really want to click through the whole slideshow, you can do so here.

It’s Official: Sally Singer is the New Editor-in-Chief of T

Our dreams have come true.

Despite convincing rumors stating otherwise, Sally Singer is the new editor-in-chief of T magazine. That’s according to T‘s digital director Horacio Silva, via the mag’s Twitter account.

While there’s little to be excited about in glossies these days, Singer’s move to the New York Times pub defies that notion. Not only is she smart and likable, she’s a master of content, which means T could become even more compelling than it already is.

We’ve asked for a comment from Vogue, but haven’t heard back from them as of yet.

Quote of the Day

“‘I’m quite solitary at the moment,’ he [Roberto Cavalli] continues. ‘People like to see me as this big party guy. If I say I’m here alone, they don’t like it.’ That said, he isn’t exactly alone. Cavalli keeps a miniature monkey in a King Kong size cage and his German shepherd has the run of Read more →
