West Hollywood Bans The Sale of Fur: It’s the first U.S. city to do so. The law doesn’t include animal pelts or secondhand/vintage pieces though. {Daily Mail}

Ricky’s Was Going To Sell An “Anna Rexia” Costume: It featured a skeleton frame printed on a skintight black dress and had a “measuring tape” belt, presumably so the wearer could show off how tiny her waist is. Obvious outcry forced the store to pull the costume; how did this even get produced in the first place?? {Jezebel}

Watch Tavi Rap In A Cab: Refinery29 interviewed the 15-year-old blogger about her fashion week experience, high school and secret talents, which includes rapping Nicki Minaj. {Refinery29}

Tavi’s Writing a Book About Being a Teenager

Tavi’s Writing a Book About Being a Teenager

If we were the jealous types, we’d certainly be jealous of Tavi. She’s been to the couture shows, is a Jane Pratt collaborator, and now…has two books in the works. One is a Rizzoli coffee table book and is based on her blog. The other one? We can’t quite figure out how to categorize it. A combo of Mad Libs and Choose Your Own Adventure, maybe.

According to WWD, Tavi had a sleepover with author Marisa Meltzer, who penned the books How Sassy Changed My Life and Girl Power. The result? Not a bleary-eyed morning because they spent the whole night eating pizza and watching Clueless. No, instead that meeting yielded a book idea.

Fashion News Roundup: Galliano for Topshop, Taylor Swift Wore Cornrows, and Tavi Does Sassy Performance Art

John Galliano for Topshop?: Say what?? Rumors have been circulating that the disgraced designer may do a line for Topshop. It would be a full 360 degree journey for Galliano, since he worked there as a student. Right now Green denies that any official meetings have happened, but our ears are to the ground on this one. {VogueUK}

Taylor Swift in Cornrows: For those of you who are afraid you’ll never get out of that awkward stage, take a peek at Taylor Swift working some cornrows. We suspect this isn’t a look she’s going to reprise anytime soon. {Stylelist}

Tavi Is Doing Performance Art as a Tribute to Sassy Magazine: On July 27 Tavi will perform a tribute to beloved glossy Sassy at a Brooklyn performance art space. If she were an attendee, however, she wouldn’t be allowed to go–21 and over only. {TheCut}

Are Kim Kardashian’s Bridesmaids Wearing Alexander McQueen?: Kim was spotted dropping off an Alexander McQueen gown at the dry cleaner. Could this possibly be a bridesmaid gown? We wouldn’t doubt it. The vision of Pippa’s ass in that dress will not soon be forgotten. It’s a look that bridesmaids everywhere would be happy to sport. {PopSugar}

In Other Superstar Style Blogger News: Garance Shoots Jane Aldridge and Tavi Gets Up-Close and Personal With ALT at Miu Miu

While the biggest mainstream fashion news unearthed over the weekend seems to be the rumor of Anna Wintour receiving the Legion d’Honneur, the style blogosphere is rife with good bits.

This morning, Sea of Shoes’ Jane Aldridge revealed that she’s been hanging out in New York and was photographed by Garance Dore for an upcoming spread/campaign of some sort. Style Bubble’s Susie Lau was also in town, so we’re speculating that she too may be involved. We’re also going to assume that it’s for an advert, not an editorial, given the exposure these ladies have already received in the glossies. But we’re sure whatever it is, it’s bound to look lovely…

Over in TaviTulle‘s world, it’s all about ALT and Miu Miu.

Crazy, Insane, Breaking News: Tavi and Jane Pratt–You Know, Sassy‘s Jane Pratt–Are Launching a Magazine

Tavi Gevinson announced on her blog yesterday that she is launching a magazine with legendary editor Jane Pratt, founder of Sassy and Jane.

As Jane Pratt is my own personal Jesus and Sassy is the reason I became interested in fashion as a 5th grader, this news fascinates/excites me. Gevinson promises that it “won’t be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0).” I’m imagining a ‘zine-like publication that barely relies on advertising, given the fact that advertising was always Pratt’s biggest problem. (As is the case with any publication that voices a real, honest opinion.)

At the same time, the whole thing makes me a little uncomfortable, given that Tavi wasn’t even alive when Sassy was still good. But I guess I wasn’t alive when the Beatles were together, and I still liked them as a 15-year-old.

Hopefully they’ll at least bring back Cute Band Alert.

Submissions, ideas, etc. can be sent to MagazineSubmissionsAreFun@gmail.com.

What do you guys think about this? I’m curious.

Alice+Olivia+Glitter+Tavi
Fashion Week

Alice+Olivia+Glitter+Tavi

I was reasonably sure when I walked into the Alice + Olivia presentation that I wouldn’t be seeing much white minimalism. I was correct. Gold glitter covered every surface, and Stacey Bendet was dressed in a silver twinkling bolero, black sparkly beaded dress, and bejeweled hair piece. Even her eyelids were glittery. I got to chat with her for a few minutes, feeling quite bland in my black and grey ensemble. Thank goodness my earrings were sparkly.

Fashionista: So tell me about the collection:
Stacey Bendet: The whole concept of the show was supposed to be this sort of timeless travel. The feel is a mix of ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and I wanted everything to be mixed and matched in a way that it all felt fresh, but each piece you’re not sure when it came from. It’s very cool and detailed and classic, and I want you to be able to pick it up and wear it ten years from now.

Fashion News Roundup: Carey’s Charming Vogue Cover, Tavi’s Styling Gig and More

We were right again. We were pretty excited about this and it’s definitely our favorite Vogue cover in a while; maybe just because we love Carey so much and that Chanel couture number is refreshingly edgy for the American glossy. The shoot was styled by Grace Coddington and shot by Peter Lindbergh. {Catwalk Queen}

The “New” Chanel Iman: Chanel Iman, who at 19 years old is well on her way to becoming a household name, is ready to change and evolve. With fashion week imminent, the runway fixture and Victoria’s Secret model has just signed with IMG after seven months with Supreme. “It’s the celebration of a new me,” she says. {Daily Front Row}

Tavi Styles at Fashion Week: Tavi continues to be unstoppable. Part of Alice & Olivia’s presentation will be styled by the 14 year old blogger. Designer Stacey Bendet calls her “one of the most original people in fashion right now.” {Elle.com}

Tavi and Lourdes: A Quickie Analysis of the Two Most Famous Tween Style Bloggers

Tavi and Lourdes: A Quickie Analysis of the Two Most Famous Tween Style Bloggers

The comparison was inevitable. When Madonna’s 13-old-daughter starts blogging about fashion, it’s hard not to look to Tavi, the OG tween fashion blogging phenom.

Even Tavi knew it when she posted on Jezebel today, “I don’t like critiquing other fashion blogs because they’re usually personal style diaries about what the writer likes and wears and there’s no point in saying someone’s taste is wrong, and in this case especially, my doing so would just make people compare us to one another.”

Too late. We’re doing it anyway. But in a nice way, promise Tavi. And Lourdes has only written one post, so we’re aware that we’re limited in our means for comparison.
