The Carrie Bradshaw character in the much-hyped Sex and the City prequel, the CW series The Carrie Diaries, has been cast. And, no, it’s not Elizabeth Olsen, as was previously rumored.
The new young Carrie is relatively unknown actress AnnaSophia Robb, best known for playing Violet Beauregarde in the 2005 Johnny Depp-version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Prepare yourselves: the world might soon know what Carrie Bradshaw looked like in the ’80s.
After years of speculation on whether or not a Sex and the City prequel would come to be, the balls are finally rolling.
The CW, home to shows like Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie, has officially ordered a pilot for The Carrie Diaries, based on the novel by Candace Bushnell.
This rumor has been three years in the making. Seriously, we reported on it in 2008. Finally, in 2011, Deadline is confirming that Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries, is indeed set to go into production as a TV series on the CW.
The show is tapping former SATC writer Amy Harris and will be executive produced by Candace Bushnell, and Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. As of now, neither Sarah Jessica Parker nor Darren Star, both of whom produced Sex and the City on HBO, are involved. No word yet on if Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively, or Olsen little sis Lizzie, will star in the series.
There may some life in the Sex and the City franchise yet…sans Sarah Jessica Parker.
