The Hills

MTV, the network that made Lauren Conrad a star, has confirmed they will not air her new reality show, which focused on her forthcoming contemporary line, Paper Crown.

“We decided not to go ahead with the show,” David Janollari, Head of Programming for MTV, told EW.com. “She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that’s also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances…It was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now.”

It’s news that seems to have come to a shock to Conrad, who talked up the show in her Teen Vogue cover story a few months ago, saying it was inspired by The September Issue. “The Hills was shot with three or four cameras; things like entrances and exits were reshot; and if there were sound issues, we were asked to repeat what we just said,” Conard said. “This show is going to have a smaller crew, and they’ll just be following us around. It’s going to have a rougher feel, but I think the end result is going to be more true.”

Seems MTV wanted more Hills and less R.J. Cutler. Conrad has issued the following statement regarding MTV’s decision to kill the show:

Lauren Conrad’s new MTV reality show won’t be a Hills redux. Gone are the grainy glammed-up montages of LA’s freeways, Conrad says her new show will be filmed more like a “documentary.” “The Hills was shot with three or four cameras; things like entrances and exits were reshot; and if there were sound issues, we were asked to repeat what we just said,” LC tells Teen Vogue in her cover story. “This show is going to have a smaller crew, and they’ll just be following us around. It’s going to have a rougher feel, but I think the end result is going to be more true.” (Right…)

Her inspiration? The September Issue. The show will focus on her new line, Paper Crown, which, Conrad says, will be all about “really great fits, fabrics, and details. It won’t be overly trendy—nothing that’s trying too hard.”

Lauren Conrad’s newest book, Lauren Conrad Style is out today. While we have differing opinions on this site as to whether Conrad’s a true style authority, this adorable baby photo from LC proves she had style from her her heart-shaped sunnies down to her toddler ankle that she holds just-so (though the Lauren Conrad of today would never let a snapper get so close to an upskirt shot). Conrad’s style evolved from Laguna Beach to The Hills to today, and her evolution into a polished classic California cool girl has inspired and influenced countless teens. And let’s face it, if you ever rocked a small braid, some credit is due to Miss Conrad (and her hair stylist). Of course, now we’ll be able to get more LC style in her newest MTV show, which will focus on her contemporary line, Paper Crown.

Lauren Conrad Style offers style advice and tips that helped transform the reality show star into the polished young lady she is today. Here, from her new book, her five go-to pieces:

Lauren Conrad made a rare appearance with the entire cast of The Hills last night on the series’ finale special. Among all of the girls on the show, Lauren has come to the forefront as the breakout style star. Teenagers all over the country emulate her looks (especially that side braid), and the phrase “as [...]

Ill-advised tattoos are a Young Hollywood tradition, and nowhere are they more plentiful than on the men of The Hills. For six seasons we’ve watched Lauren, Kristin and Audrina pine for dudes whose favorite outfits consist of board shorts and ink––not all of it pretty.

On Tuesday, after the series finale on MTV, Brody, Justin Bobby and the rest will motorcycle off into the sunset. But these gentlemen have been permanently etched in the pop culture consciousness. They’ve marked up their abs and shoulders, and even convinced their lady friends to do the same. So which one committed the worst sins of the flesh?

Rumor has it that MTV has canceled (seemingly) successful scripted reality series The City. The current season, which airs on Tuesdays at 10.30pm EST, will be its last.

The City, a spin-off of the The Hills, which was a spin-off of Laguna Beach, documents the “life” of Whitney Port, a young designer trying to make it in New York. It mostly takes place at real-life fashion industry companies, including Kelly Cutrone‘s public relations firm People’s Revolution and Elle magazine, where main characters Erin Kaplan and Olivia Palermo “work.” (Kaplan does indeed work full time at Elle, Palermo does not.)

In general, we’re a bit surprised by this news.

Teen Vogue has a new TV show in the works. I sat on a panel with Amy Astley and Andy Hilfiger yesterday, to talk to students at City College about careers in fashion, and she mentioned how much has changed since she started Teen Vogue seven years ago and how magazines have to work ten [...]

Whitney Port was sued in Los Angeles on Friday. Whitney, who started out as a reluctant, “I’m-just-an-intern” co-star on The Hills before moving to New York, “working” for Diane von Furstenburg and getting her own show, The City, started her line Witney Eve in 2007 and surprise! She doesn’t actually design each and every piece. [...]

On Tuesday night the second season of The City premiered on MTV. I’ve been stewing over the new episode since it aired, and I’m not sure why I still watch a show that never fails to frustrate me. I’m a recent college grad and current industry intern, who has spent hours sending in dozens of [...]

Whitney Port, of The Hills and The City, has apparently “designed” a lipstick for Cargo. Of course, I recognize that there is PR value and it’s very lovely that a portion of the profits go to St. Jude’s. But really, I’ve always found these collaborations, if you can even call them that, rather dumb. I [...]
