Who Should Replace Sally Singer at T?

We were all caught off guard by this week’s announcement that Sally Singer would be leaving T, the magazine she left Vogue to helm just two years ago. Her ousting is rumored to be due to a decrease in ad pages, particularly from luxury brands, even though we really loved the hyper-real messy/sexy/edgy vibe she Read more →

The Best Magazine Covers of 2011

Dont judge a book by its cover… Unless it’s a magazine, in which case, sometimes the cover is the deciding factor of whether or not to buy the mag altogether.

The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we’re still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there’s still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography.

After toiling over hundred of covers, we’re bringing you “The Best” according to us. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

Editorial Musical Chairs: Major Shuffling at Lucky and More

With fashion month over and done with, the glossies are starting to see some shuffling again, especially at Lucky, whose new Editor in Chief was announced in the midst of NYFW.

The first major masthead change occurred last month, when creative director Andrea Linett resigned. Most recently, Alexis Bryan Morgan, Elle’s fashion director for just under a year, was hired as Lucky’s new executive fashion director. “She’s got a great sense of style and she fits perfectly with the path I’m setting here at Lucky,” EIC Brandon Holley told WWD. Hope Greenberg, formerly Lucky’s fashion director, has left the magazine and been replaced by former market director Anne Kwon Keane.

Fashion News Roundup: Gap Tries To Fix What’s Not Broken, Uniqlo’s J+ Hits Stores, and Christina Hendricks Thinks Karen Elson Copied Her Look

Gap Tries To Fix What’s Not Broken: Yesterday, Gap dropped its iconic logo that almost everyone and their mother could recognize for a Helvetica font logo with a weird blue square behind it. Brand Channel has some strong words on the change: “Ditching the classic logo, recognized by everyone, in favor of whatever that new monstrosity is, demonstrates a prototypical brand panic move…Ironically maybe, the new logo is perfect for the brand. It communicates exactly the values currently embodied by Gap: A sense of being lost and a lack of clear vision and creativity.” Ouch. {Brand Channel}

Jil Sander for Uniqlo: Uniqlo’s J+ collaboration hits stores today. Racked NY was on the scene and the hot ticket is the outerwear. {Racked NY}

Christina Hendricks Thinks Karen Elson’s a Copycat: Harper’s Bazaar covergirl Christina Hendricks claims she’s responsible for Elson’s red locks as well as her success. “I was in Milan, and you would see the same girls at castings. There was one girl—she was like, ‘I can’t get any work. I’m so sick of this, I’m ready to quit. I love your hair color. What do you color your hair with?’ and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s red. Here’s my formula.’ It was Karen Elson. A couple of weeks later, she had bright-red hair…Sorry, Karen, but you did ask about my hair color. Then I saw her on the cover of Italian Vogue, and the rest is history!” {Harper’s Bazaar}

Burberry Plays the Game

Despite the recession and the almost weekly fashion brand bankruptcy announcements (and the inconceivable amount of pounds spent on their London Fashion Week extravaganza), Burberry continues to outshine their luxury peers. Their wholesale numbers are down almost 23%. They’ve closed most of their smaller wholesale accounts and the stores they do still sell to buy Read more →

The It Is Gone

Everybody’s mourning the death of the It Bag. Nobody wants to carry one, buy one, or talk about how they can’t get one. In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, the sudden aversion to It Bags has resulted in brands like Marni, whose bags don’t advertise the brand with an official logo anywhere, doing Read more →
