Tiffany

On Wednesday night, Tiffany brought its signature blue to the Crosby Street Hotel to celebrate the launch of the jewelry brand’s new website–WhatMakesLoveTrue.com–its corresponding iPhone app, and a screening of a short film by Edward Burns made especially for the site. As fans of romance and fine jewelry, we popped by to see how the name synonymous with both interpreted “true love.”

There were turquoise platters filled heart-shaped blinis and mini cupcakes, and a photo booth where attendees could snap themselves against a blue heart background (presumably with a significant other) and either print the mementos or upload them to the web. It was pretty adorable, especially seeing couples cuddle up to take one. A particularly attentive touch was the choice of music. The DJs–DJ MOS and DJ Kiss–are newlyweds, having tied the knot in January after six years of dating. MOS said he thought the site was “an amazing, great idea. So helpful, especially for guys. We wanna know like, ‘how do I do this, am I doing it the right way?’”

So what exactly does the site do?

Yesterday’s parties were the best kind of parties because they were all centered around good food.

I started off my day with breakfast at Tiffany. Really. As an Audrey Hepburn fan who has watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s countless times, the whole thing was a little surreal. Tiffany treated about 20 bloggers to a lovely breakfast in the actual store before it opened. We feasted on smoked salmon with our mouths and diamonds with our eyes. Not a bad way to start the day.

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.

Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.

In need of a $7 million necklace?

I can steer you in the right direction. Tiffany & Co. unveiled its new 2010 collections and I got to wander around a twinkling forest of gems.

The aforementioned necklace has a 20-carat internally flawless diamond surrounded by a lot more diamonds. It was lovely, but probably better suited to a Middle Eastern prince a la the imaginations of the SATC 2 creators. It would really bring me unwanted attention on the subway.

On the other hand, I saw a gorgeous cuff bracelet encrusted with 3,300 different sized round diamonds. It would absolutely transform that bland army jacket into something quite spectacular. And it’s a steal at $140,000.

New York fashion insiders have a reliable stable of crushes: Alber Elbaz, the brilliant Lanvin designer who resembles a talking teddy bear; Kate Bosworth, the slightly too-thin but always charming actress (whom Vogue’s Sally Singer calls a “muse”), and Kate Lanphear, the spunky, punky Senior Fashion Editor at Elle, whose winning tough-girl outfits are the [...]
