The Top 10 Prada Red Carpet Looks from 1995 to Today

The Top 10 Prada Red Carpet Looks from 1995 to Today

With the Met exhibit just around the corner, we’re expecting to see a lot of celebrities in Prada. While it might be difficult to imagine some of those runway frocks on the red carpet (we don’t see dresses over pants as a go-to for celebrities), it doesn’t mean that the brand is without its fair share of red carpet moments through the years. Quite the opposite.

Prada is the seminal red carpet brand, in a way. The watershed moment in celebrity red carpet styling came in 1995 when Uma Thurman, styled by Barbara Tfank, wore a simple yet elegant lavendar gown to the Oscars (a.k.a. the dress that launched a thousand celebrity stylists’ careers). It was with this appearance that Prada became a household name overnight. The svelte actress was in a traceable gown from a brand to which people could aspire, instead of one provided by a film costumer or, heaven forbid, self-designed (we’re looking at you Demi Moore and Kim Basinger). It hit the high notes of 90s minimalism and became one of those capital “M” fashion Moments.

Haider Ackermann Fall 2012: Autumn Leaves

Haider Ackermann Fall 2012: Autumn Leaves

PARIS–Haider Ackermann knows something about passion. This much is clear from his dreamy fall 2012 collection, shown yesterday in the ornate salons of the Hôtel de Ville.

The show kicked off with subtly elongated silhouettes: tightly fitted maxiskirts, high waisted flared trousers and structured belts set the focus on a feminine waist and played with the trompe-l’oeil effect of endless legs. Peplum jackets with undulating folds around the waist, draped and folded leather coats, as well as cinched dresses added a touch of playfulness.

The Ackermann sex appeal was there, of course, this season on leather skits with seductive slits up one thigh and on cleavage-baring deep v-necks, but at there was a sense of melancholy.

Alber Elbaz Rings In 10 Years at Lanvin with a Song, Celebs, and a Glamorous Fall Collection

The creatures who inhabit the fashion world are often prickly and polarizing but Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, who tonight celebrated 10 years at the label with the presentation of his fall 2012 collection and a party immediately following, is pretty much beloved by all. And for good reason. The smiley, bespectacled, bow-tied designer is self-deprecating Read more →
