The Spring 2011 runways were awash with orange, both on the clothes and on the faces. But none of the looks got more attention than makeup artist Tom Pecheux’s pop of orange and white on the girls’ eyes at Derek Lam.
That 15 minute moment on the runway is now the cornerstone of Estée Lauder’s spring makeup line. After Tom, who is the Creative Makeup Director for Estée Lauder, used a coral lip pencil as an eyeliner, the brand quickly made plans to whip up eye shadows in the same colors.
What goes on backstage at the Victoria Secret runway show? I spent yesterday afternoon hanging with the models, makeup artists, and hairstylists, trying to figure out the difference between bronzer and self-tanner. (Haha, just kidding. Kind of.) Some quick numbers:
68: The number of hair extensions used by stylist Sam McKnight
15: The number of days Alessandra Ambrosio works out each year. (“And all before this!” she says.)
40: Total number of hours the styling team spent working yesterday.
