What I Saw at Paris Fashion Week: Day 1

OK, so today wasn’t technically day one of Paris fashion week. Anthony Vaccarello started the week off with a bang yesterday–Karlie Kloss‘ first appearance of the season and falling models, oh my!–and Cedric Charlier debuted his first solo collection. But things really got started today. From vintage Zandra Rhodes on the runway for the first Read more →

Quoth Adriana Lima, “Leave her alone!” {Vogue UK}

Armani Teams Up With Tommy Ton and Co. to Launch Heritage Frames

Armani Teams Up With Tommy Ton and Co. to Launch Heritage Frames

To celebrate the debut of their new Heritage Frames eye wear collection, Armani put together a blogger-photographed street style project called Frames of Your Life, intended to capture real people wearing their shades. It’s a “more than just sunglasses” deal, okay? It’s a “frame” of one’s life, captured in a photographer’s lens while wearing Armani’s frames. Get it?

Despite the kitschy tag line on the project’s website, the project is quite impressive: Armani has used well known and respected bloggers (like Tommy Ton) whose photographs are gorgeous. So far, they’ve captured subjects in ten cities.

Click through to see our favorite shots, and check out Frames of Your Life for profiles on the bloggers and their cities.

Fashion News Roundup: Marc Jacobs’ Twitter Gets Hacked By An Angry Intern, Rodarte DJs, and Prince Harry Covers GQ

Marc Jacobs Intern Goes on Twi-page (that’s a Twitter rampage–it sorta works?): Remember how Marc Jacobs was looking to hire someone to manage their Twitter, via Twitter to replace CEO Robert Duffy? Well this intern did not get the job. An MJ intern hijacked the @MarcJacobsIntl twitter handle and tweeted gems like, “‘You guys and gals have no idea how difficult Robert is. I am only an intern. My last day is tomorrow. I wouldn’t be tweeting this if not!…Good luck! I pray for you all. If you get the job! I’m out of here. See ya! Son’t want to be ya! Roberts a tyrant!” Those tweets have obvs been removed. {Daily Mail}

How Tommy Ton Makes Bank:
Business of Fashion profiled Jak and Jil photoblogger Tommy Ton as part of their “Business of Blogging” series. In it Ton reveals he makes up to $2,000 an image, and would take pay for editorial placement. {BoF}

Remember Prince Harry? He’s Still Really Hot: What with his upcoming royal wedding to Kate Middleton, Prince William’s got a guaranteed hold on the spotlight. A little reminder that the spare is still around? David Bailey shot Prince Harry for the cover of British GQ and he looks good. {British GQ}

Most Influential Street Style Bloggers

Most Influential Street Style Bloggers

When I started writing about fashion in 2004, street style photographers were not yet a breed. Well, at least not in the Western world. But with advent of The Sartorialist in 2005, that all changed. Today, just about every fashion related website, blog, what-have-you boasts some form of street style photography.

And while Scott Schuman, founder of The Sartorialist, may be the pioneer, he is no longer alone in his work. The streets surrounding fashion week runways have become flooded with a special type of paparazzi–the kind who you want to be bothered by.

Other than a good blog post, and some great inspiration, what do street style photographers get out of this work?

Google Wants to Be More Fashionable

Google Wants to Be More Fashionable

Google thinks fashion bloggers understand social media better than those covering other industries. So one of the world’s most powerful companies is tapping the brains of some of the world’s most powerful bloggers in order to get a better sense of how they consume and use media. Google is calling the program GStyle.

At the helm of the project is Tony Wang of post.fashionism.com.

A long list of bloggers were emailed by Wang on Monday, asking if they were interested in being interviewed by Google. The interview would consist of questions regarding “how you use internet technologies, your challenges as a blogger, and how Google can help you become the best blogger possible.”

The program, currently in pilot mode, is not a secret operation, but is in internal. The information Google is gathering is only for Googlers. At least for now.

Label to Watch: Reece Hudson

Just after lunch, I headed down the block to the Reece Hudson showroom to take a look at their fall collection. Reece Solomon and Max Stein launched the handbag line in 2009, and it’s been a hit ever since. They can’t seem to keep their bags on the shelves at both Castor & Pollux and Read more →
