A Look Back at Gossip Girl‘s Finest Fashion Moments

A Look Back at Gossip Girl‘s Finest Fashion Moments

It’s official: The series finale of Gossip Girl is a mere eleven episodes away. While many a cynic may argue that the show actually ended sometime during the second season, for us die-hard Upper East Side wannabes, this news is harder hitting than a Nairtini to the head.

Of course, what we’ll miss most of all is the fashion. Gossip Girl has been on top of the fashion game since its first “XOXO” way back in early 2007, and as the series progressed, the characters’ signature styles arguably surpassed the plot development in terms of critical praise.

Between Blair’s preppy headbands, Chuck’s dandy suits, and Serena’s gravity-defying cleavage, the influence the kids of Constance have had on street style and fashion spreads alike is undeniable. So, as a tearful ode to our favorite CW soap, here’s a look back at some of the style stand-outs that have made the last five years of impossible-to-follow plot lines a little more bearable.

After Chris Burch Read That I Was Afraid of C. Wonder, He Took Me on a Tour of the Store: Here’s What I Learned

After Chris Burch Read That I Was Afraid of C. Wonder, He Took Me on a Tour of the Store: Here’s What I Learned

Last week, we reported a rumor that Kate Spade was planning to launch a lower-priced line that, according to the Daily News, would be positioned to compete with C. Wonder, Chris Burch’s big, bright (and controversial) concept chain. I mentioned something about how I hoped it wasn’t too much like C. Wonder, which, as I admitted, I had never been to because I find the singing and dancing employees a tad overwhelming and scary. I just don’t particularly like overstimulating environments and overly-enthusiastic, aggressive employees make me uncomfortable. Since I’d never been there, I didn’t know if they actually were aggressive, but it just seemed like they would be and they were always standing right at the entrance so I knew I’d have to deal with them!

Well, the next day, Chris Burch emailed me saying he read the article (eek!) and invited me to meet him at the Soho store to experience C. Wonder firsthand. [Ed. note: We think this is pretty awesome of Chris Burch.] So I went. Read on for my more informed assessment of the store, some things I learned about the brand, and what Burch had to say about its inspiration, competitors, and what’s next.

Former Chris Burch Employee Claims He Was Fired For Not Being Gay

Yes, you read that headline right.

A guy named Jamie Adigo has filed a $1 million suit against his former employer Chris Burch because, he alleges, he was fired for being…straight. According to the Post, Ardigo claims Burch said that he “only hired gay men because they were productive and he trusted them,” and after Ardigo complained about said comment to HR, he was canned.

Rumor: Chris Burch’s Next Brand To Be Called ‘Trademark’

Remember that article in New York Magazine‘s spring fashion issue outlining the awkward business relationship between Tory Burch and her ex-husband and business partner Chris Burch after he sneakily launched C. Wonder, a lifestyle brand that closely resembles and competes with the one he launched with Tory (Tory was not happy about this)? And how WWD then reported rumors that Tory was planning to sue her ex for “trade dress infringement or usurpation of corporate opportunity.” Then, Page Six reported that Chris, who remained co-chairman of Tory Burch the whole time, was forced to step down after a “boardroom showdown.”

Before then, WWD noted that Chris was already “looking to sell his stake in the company to focus on his own rapidly expanding business ventures which include eight other retail concepts beyond C. Wonder.” One of those eight retail concepts, according to the original New York article, is “an as-yet-unnamed clothing company his daughters Alexandra (“Pookie”) and Louisa (“Weezie”) are working on together.”

According to a reliable source, that clothing company is going to be called Trademark.

Tory Burch Fall 2012: Ready To Face Her Public

Speculation has been rampant lately–as evidenced by a story in this morning’s WWD–that Tory Burch may be ready for an IPO. And having watched her growth for the last two years now (this is my fifth season covering her shows) and observing how her shoes and bags have taken over my hometown in the Midwest, it looks like she definitely has the chops to make it happen.

Rachel Zoe Won’t Let Jennifer Garner Wear Maternity: The super stylist has apparently banned Jen from wearing maternity clothes to events, but with four more months to go, Garner says it’s going to have to happen “sooner or later.” Or she could just go the Jamie Lynn Spears route and wear really huge t-shirts. {InStyle}

The Top Ten Best Dressed from Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards

Last night we headed over to Carnegie Hall for a night of inspiration, heart-warming speeches and, most importantly, girl power. For those of you who don’t know, we are of course talking about Glamour‘s Women of the Year awards.

The annual event, which honors extraordinary women, this year doled out awards to the year’s standout stars–from the most talked about songstresses like Lea Michele and J.Lo to the visionaries who truly changed the world, such as Egypt’s “Facebook Girl” and Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, as well as legends like feminist Gloria Steinem.

While the there were too many wise words to count (Arianna Huffington reminding us that “failure is just a stepping stone to success,” Gloria Steinem assuring us that there is life after 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, “life is just one big surprise”) we’ve managed to at least narrow down the night’s best dressed. Though with ladies as remarkable as these, that too was a challenge. Click through to see the best dressed from the night.

Mayor Bloomberg Talks Fashion’s Night Out While Anna Wintour, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Other CFDA Members Stand There

After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.

Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.

Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.

Just kidding – sort of.

Playing Real Life Barbie With Tory Burch Denim
Fashion Is Fun

Playing Real Life Barbie With Tory Burch Denim

This week Tory Burch hosted a bunch of fashion bloggers and online editors at her Meatpacking boutique to celebrate the launch of her new denim collection. But instead of just browsing the collection over cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres (don’t get me wrong, those pigs in blankets were delicious and I ate a lot of them), we got to play real life Barbie dress up with models wearing Burch’s new denim line.

The line itself was super cute. Some styles were just what you’d imagine Tory Burch denim to look like–classic, clean, bootcut–but other styles were much more unexpected and trendy. There were metallic brushed jeggings (though Tory calls them “denim leggings”), boyfriend jeans brushed with silver as well (called “tomboy jeans”), and some crazy colorful print stretch jeans that looked all paint splattered.
