How Your Tweets During Fashion Shows are Driving Sales

You can watch pretty much any designer runway show from the comfort of your own couch these days thanks to livestreaming. Designers run them on their Facebook pages, on specific livestream sites, and on fashion websites like this one. While you, the at-home fashion consumer, may be watching for entertainment or to make your shopping list for the next season, know this: The brands are also watching you (and your tweets) closely.

From Miley’s Bun to Angie’s Right Leg: Our Favorite Celebrity Trademarks On Twitter

As you’ve probably heard, Miley Cyrus incited an internet shitstorm by cutting her hair and posting photos of it on Twitter. The event obviously brought Miley a lot of attention (so much so that some are speculating it was Britney-esque cry for help), but it also brought attention to hilarious Twitter account @Mileys_Bun, which surely Read more →

Karen Elson is Told by Daniel Tosh Fan She ‘Needs to be Raped’ After Criticizing the Comedian

Karen Elson is Told by Daniel Tosh Fan She ‘Needs to be Raped’ After Criticizing the Comedian

In case you missed it, earlier this week comedian Daniel Tosh told an audience member that it would be funny if she got raped “by like, five guys” after she interrupted the comedian’s set to tell him that the rape jokes he was already making weren’t actually funny. But, as comedians seem to forget, what happens in the comedy club doesn’t always stay in the comedy club, and the woman’s blog post about the incident quickly went viral, with websites like Jezebel picking up the story. While some comedians have stepped up to Tosh’s defense, the incident mostly drew the ire of the public at large. Even fashion people like Karen Elson took note. The model voiced her reaction on Twitter saying, “Daniel Tosh didn’t get the memo that it [rape] never was and never will be funny.”

Apparently, Tosh has some rabid fans, because within hours Elson received a number of pretty nasty responses. An example? “@KarenElson_ Needs to be raped, she might lighten up after getting some for once.”

Fashion News Roundup: Chloë Moretz Is the New Face of Aeropostale, Narciso Rodriguez Launches Accessories, and Adele Records a Special New Album

We figured it was only a matter of time before teen actress and fashion darling Chloë Grace Moretz scored herself an ad campaign: She’s the new brand ambassador for Aéropostale. {Fashionista inbox}

Adele has reportedly hit the recording studio; she’s said to be putting together nursery rhymes to play for her unborn child in the womb. Aww! {Refinery29}

We thought we’d do anything to keep our hair in tiptop shape, but our routines are child’s play compared to what these Chicago thieves did to snag some hair extensions. {HuffPo}

In case we haven’t said it before, we really love Madewell. If you do too, you can even pre-order your favorite pieces. {FabSugar}

The Fashion Industry Aims To Corner the Chinese Market With Weibo: Here Are The Brands Doing It Right and Why

How It Works
If you’ve heard of Weibo, you’ve probably heard it described as “Chinese Twitter.” The Chinese microblogging platform, which is more interactive and has more features than Twitter and is thus considered more of a hybrid of Twitter and Facebook, is extremely popular in China, boasting over 250 million users. Key differences between Weibo and Twitter are: In addition to retweeting, you can comment; you can write more text; and it’s easier to share other media like photos and videos. It’s also mostly in Chinese.

As with most popular social media platforms, Weibo has become an important marketing tool for the fashion industry, especially since Twitter and Facebook are both banned in China. You’ve also undoubtedly heard that China, with their rapidly growing wealth, is an increasingly important and viable market for fashion–luxury brands especially. So it follows that brands are eager to tap into Weibo’s expansive social network to reach those oh so desirably young upwardly mobile consumers.

Some US and European brands have already gained a foothold.

Exclusive Interview: Choupette Lagerfeld on Her Newly Launched Twitter, Living With Karl Lagerfeld and More

Well, that was fast. But not at all surprising for the world’s most technologically savvy cat. While we’re kicking ourselves for not thinking of it first, we’re glad that one very important celebrity pet is now on Twitter: Karl Lagerfeld’s 9 month old kitten Choupette (who tweets under the handle Choupette’s Diary). Just hours after we learned of Choupette’s lavish life replete with multiple maids who record her every move in diaries, dining at tables, and using iPads, she’s been given a platform to regale us with frequent updates on her day and interact with her fans.

Choupette’s first tweet was only a few hours ago and since then she’s been averaging a tweet every couple of minutes and has amassed 774 followers, though we’re sure that number will increase rapidly. Since we all desperately need more information about Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, we reached out to her on Twitter and, despite her busy schedule of eating, napping and, now, tweeting, she agreed to answer some questions. Read on for Choupette’s thoughts on being abandoned by Baptiste Giabiconi, her two maids, the recent trend of morbidly obese felines and much more.
