Twitter

In this day and age, everyone can probably admit to being just a wee bit addicted to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. (Go on, you can admit it. This is a safe space.) So it’s only natural that our internet obsessions would find their way into our wardrobes one day.

And friends, that day is today. Copyranter found these genius social-media-themed Keds, designed by graphic designer Lumen Bigott. Biggot created four styles designed to rep our favorite social mediate sites: Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia and Google Buzz, and they are amazing.

Sadly they are still concept-only and have no prospect of going into production. But we have faith that will change soon (pretty, please?), because c’mon, who wouldn’t want to wear a Facebook friend request on their feet all day!?

So Keds, we hope you’re listening. You need to get on this shit already!

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake just hit somewhere near Richmond, VA and tremors were felt from Washington D.C. to Manhattan (we may have thought there was a particularly hefty person stomping on the roof, at first…). Of course, we turned to Twitter as our first source to find out that, yes, that swaying we felt was, in fact, an actual earthquake in Manhattan of all places. And because fashion people Tweet their every waking moment, we rounded up some of the best reactions to the midday rumble:

Joe Zee (@mrjoezee)
Everyone’s ok at my @ELLEmagazine office here – clearly, since they’re all tweeting like crazy going down 41 flights of stairs. #Earthquake

DKNY PR GIRL (@dkny)
This is when everyone on the Wesrt Coast starts calling us drama queens….

Prabal Gurung (@prabalgurung)
It wasn’t an earthquake. Its momma nature’s tummy rumbling. hee hee.

Eva Chen Bannister (@evachen212)
okay, I’m kind of annoyed that what I assumed was me tripping in my slightly too big Chanel flatforms was actually an earthquake. what.

Our online dose of Gwyneth Paltrow wisdom has been thus far limited to her weekly GOOP newsletter and various clips of her doing ridiculous things on talk shows, like rapping. Not anymore. Gwyneth is taking the world of social media by storm–she just opened Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Her first tweet and Facebook wall post are the same–a video of her walking down an NYC street holding her phone at a not-so-flattering angle, giggling about how she has entered the 21st century.

One of the reasons we, and over 90,000 people follow Marc Jacob’s twitter handle is because his CEO Robert Duffy is behind it. And he’s sometimes quite overshare-y which makes @MarcJacobsIntl very entertaining to follow.

Only Robert Duffy has just announced, via twitter, that he’s tweeted his last tweet (this Valentine’s photo, right, is apparently just that). As for who will replace him? According to twitter, Marc Jacobs is looking to hire “someone to come on and take a job heading our twitter acct and social media.” And don’t bother sending over a cover letter and resume, they’re currently interviewing candidates over twitter by soliciting clever tweets. “Be clever. Smart. Understand our DNA. Say it in one tweet! That is your interview!” it says. They’re serious about it, too, it seems: “I just got in trouble from Robert for being arrogant in my tweets. We are being serious. This is a real opportunity.”

Dawn Simorangkir, who designs Boudoir Queen, a line known for 1920s-inspired frocks and intricate corsets, is suing Courtney Love over defamatory tweets that she claims ruined her fashion career, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Back in March of 2009, Love tweeted something along the lines of that Simorangkir (her married name is Dawn Younger-Smith) was a “drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child,” and that “she has received a VAST amount of money from me over 40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped TOO!”

Love had been a devoted fan of Simorangkir’s designs, wearing custom pieces created for her and shopping Boudoir Queen’s popular Etsy shop (more bitterness unraveled on Etsy as well). Things fell apart when, according to Simorangkir, Love refused to pay up for several thousand dollars worth of clothing.

We had some idea that things had gone sour between the two when a crazy commenter war broke out in a story we posted about Love’s love for Boudoir Queen and her Etsy shop. And even if Simorangkir’s career suffered after Love’s tweet-rade, she showed a lovely collection four months ago at Austin Fashion Week.

Yesterday, someone typing under the Twitter handle @Fashionweeknyc began revealing his/her plans for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 shows:

“I will be Streaming Live from @Lincoln_Center on Tuesday at 3pm! I will be Giving a Tour around Lincoln Center for Spring 2011 Fashion Week!”

“Question of the Day: Who is your Favorite Fashion Designer on Twitter?”

When a few reputable brands retweeted this mysterious person’s thoughts, I decided to look “her” up. A Lincoln Center rep told me that they are not affiliated with her. IMG said the same thing. According to her Twitter bio, she is an “Independent Fashion Tweetologist that Will be Streaming & Tweeting Live from the runway during SPRING 2011 Fashion week.”

Tweetologist. Fascinating.

Dear Chris,

I follow you on Twitter and you’re always out and about. How do you balance being fabulous with being a hard worker?

Dear Follower -

One of the skills that I learned in my early years of moving to NYC (now, over ten years ago!) was that the 24 hours in the day must be compartmentalized. Moving to NYC at 17 proved a steep learning curve to this end. We would go to class at Parsons from 9-3pm, take naps, work on our projects in the dorms while also making crazy club-kid costumes, and then go out until 4 or 5 in the morning. Rinse, and repeat!

I’m not sure how we survived it, but we pulled through. It’s something that was every bit as important to me as school, being a part of that collective consciousness. Listen, I haven’t seen 4am in quite a few years, but what I can tell you is that a lot of ideas come from hours of conversation and laughter outside the studio.

If you follow Lindsay Lohan on Twitter, you might have noticed that her feed is peppered with thinly veiled ads for designer goods. The latest? “Are you kidding?? Burberry’s on sale today on Beyond the Rack! Just bought a scarf and hobo!! Bring it on!!”

The tweets are working. A reader was recently swayed by Lohan’s Twitter (she has over 700,000 followers) to visit BeyondTheRack.com in hopes of snagging a Balenciaga.

The troubled starlet owes $600,000 in credit card debt, so it’s no surprise that’s she’s taking money from wherever she can get it.

While LiLo’s sponsored tweets are generally denoted as ads at the end (her feed is starting to look like my spam folder), many celebs are paid to tweet for brands more subtly, and they’re making bank for typing out those 140 characters to their followers.
