If 2011 was hard on Urban Outfitters, what with the Navajo-undies-lawsuit and falling stock price, then 2012 is shaping up to be an even bigger challenge: Yesterday, it was announced that the retailer’s CEO Glen Senk had resigned, reports WWD.
It’s a huge blow for the retailer, who was already losing investors’ confidence fast in 2011. Senk is very well-respected in the industry, and is credited with much of Urban’s success from 2008 on, and his sudden departure from the company does not bode well for Urban’s future–nor it’s stock price: When news broke about his resignation yesterday, Urban’s stock fell $4.15, or 14.1 percent, to $25.26.

Taking fuddy duddy, traditionally American things and turning them into high fashion seems to be a budding trend. (See: Glamping.) The latest target of the luxury fashion world’s makeover is everyone’s favorite holiday tradition: The Christmas Sweater.
Somewhere between classy (as defined by Derek Blasberg) and campy (as defined by Corky St. Clair) is this list of Christmas sweaters from big name designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. It’s the best new mix of high and low, plus you’ll probably wear these Christmas sweaters again, as opposed to the one your mom made you with yarn and a hot glue gun. (Sorry, Mom!)
Check out the festive options available for Christmas and get in the holiday spirit!

Searching for the perfect outfit to wear to that festive holiday party? Nothing says the holidays like a patterned sweater, and we found a doozy. At first glance it appears to have a happy autumnal motif. But look a little closer.
This BDG sweater is covered in a pattern that represents all the best vices: beer, cigs, pills (two different kinds), mushrooms, and pot. You can pick this baby up (on sale!) at Urban Outfitters for $49. (Which is like the equivalent of 10 Bud Light six-packs. Or an eighth of really, really bad weed.)
We wouldn’t recommend wearing it to Grandma’s house. Or a work party. Or to attempt to adopt a baby.

Things aren’t looking good for Urban Outfitters. The retail chain made the news three times this year–and for all the wrong reasons, including insensitively (and illegally) labelled “navajo” undies, allegedly knocked-off state necklaces and using an underage model in “salacious” photos. Now, it looks like all that controversy has finally taken a toll on business.
According to Businessweek, Urban Outfitters’ shares have dropped 27 percent this year and the retailer is losing investors’ confidence fast. What’s to blame? According to Urban’s CEO Glen Senk, it’s “a fashion issue, plain and simple.” Besides selling styles that are “simply off” (Businessweek dedicates a paragraph to both flares and “baggy tops,” which the industry weekly says, gasp!, don’t go together), the retailer’s recent controversies aren’t helping the situation.

Victoria’s Secret Models’ Dueling Halloween Parties: Current Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr is hosting a NYC Halloween soiree the same night as her predecessor and Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s annual bash. It’s like a Zoolander-esque walk-off, except they’ll be wearing funny costumes and probably won’t even see each other. The horror!! Mwahaha. {NY Post}
PETA Wants Gaga in a Lettuce Dress: PETA will design a dress of leafy greens, and is even offering to supply someone to spray the ensemble with water so it doesn’t wilt. How generous! {Styleite}
You Can Vote for British Style Icon of the Year: Once again, the British Fashion Council is letting us vote for our favo[u]rite Brit it-girl. Alexa Chung won last year, but there are a lot of other strong contenders and a few fresh faces this time around. Who shall it be? As Captain Planet would say, the power is YOURS! {Telegraph}

Miranda Kerr Will Wear the $2.5 Million Bra at the VS Show: The supermodel (and Orlando Bloom’s baby mama) will return to the VS catwalk next month, along with performers Kanye and Maroon 5, wearing a bejeweled bra worth $2.5m. I’ve already pre-ordered a few for myself. {Telegraph}
Rachel Zoe Blames Extreme Luggage on Climate, Baby Skyler: Remember that photo of Rachel Zoe’s thirteen suitcases as she headed off to various fashion weeks? The Hollywood stylist explains to InStyle that all that baggage was totally necessary: She was packing for several climates! And her baby spits up a lot. Oh ok. {InStyle}
Steve Jobs’s Turtlenecks Aren’t Even by St. Croix: Here’s a case of mistaken mock-turtleneck identity that really worked out for St. Croix. Turns out the luxury brand, which reported a 100% sales increase following Steve Jobs’s death last week, didn’t actually make the Mac genius’s famed black shirts after all. Jobs revealed to biographer Walter Isaacson that the shirts were created by Japanese designer Issey Miyake, who was asked to create a uniform for Apple employees. Wonder how this news will impact Mr. Miyake’s business? {Styleite via Gawker}
