Are Babies the Must-Have Accessory for Fashion Editorials?

Are Babies the Must-Have Accessory for Fashion Editorials?

When it comes to accessorizing an editorial, magazine editors know that there’s one thing that will never fail to instantly jazz up a shoot: Babies! You need only to look at Vogue Spain’s December cover, shot by Bruce Weber and starring a chubby baby’s behind (and we think that Dree Hemingway is in it as well? We weren’t paying attention…) to know what we mean.

Whether it’s baby carriages, baby bottles, or bare baby bums, there’s something about infants that is just so…chic, no? Take a look at the many fashion editorials featuring babies and get inspired to rock your baby (or niece or nephew) next time you really want to make an impression.

There’s only one question that remains: Just where, oh where, are magazines finding all these babies!?

See What Marc Jacobs, Alexa Chung, Hamish Bowles and More Fashion Folk Wore for Halloween

The past four days have been a non-stop party for a lot of fashion people here in New York. And those Halloween parties have been well-documented. The Tribeca Grand’s Overlook Hotel party, the Boom Boom Room’s fete and last night’s V party hosted by Terry Richardson drew the most fashion-heavy crowds and, as we all know, fashion people like to dress up. They also seem to like obscure references–many of their costumes were tough to identify, but still fun to look at. So, from Alexa Chung to Joan Smalls to Marc Jacobs, here are a bunch of fashion people in their Halloween best!

All the September Issues, Analyzed: Find Out Which Look, Which Model, and Which Photog Scored the Most Covers

For the past month, we’re sure that you’ve heard time and time again about the importance of the September issue. It is one of those fashion truths we hold to be self-evident. But what does that really mean, and why? Yes, it’s the month which produces magazines that can be used as semi-violent weapons, where ads skyrocket and page numbers are reported on covers like baseball stats, but the truth is that the content of those magazine hold what editors consider to be the best of the upcoming fall season.

For this reason, we decided to put the September issue under a microscope. We’ve scoured dozens of issues from around the world, and now it’s time to take a look at which designers, photographers and models were sought after for the most important issue of the year.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Carine Roitfeld would be styling V‘s September cover and cover story and it’s now coming to fruition. W Responds to Nicola Formichetti, Plus a Closer Look at How His Facebook Really Reflects His Feelings About Fat People

In case you missed it, here is a recap of this week’s Nicola Formichetti vs. fat people vs. W situation: W published a piece in the August music issue about Lady Gaga stylist and Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti in which he discusses, among other things, his styling career. At one point in the article, Formichetti recalls an instance where he was hired to style a band. He is quoted as saying:

“I was only used to dressing models and skinny kids and I turned up and it was, like, three fat guys. I just left. That was the last time I tried to work with fat people. I think one of them was Ali G’s brother. It was so ghetto.”

Yesterday, after the quote inevitably inspired some negative press on the blogosphere, Nicola took to Facebook to defend himself by posting a picture of a shoot he styled for V‘s size issue with the comment “i know i should just leave it but…i really hate when writers just write whatever they want… ‘i dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?!”

So was Nicola misquoted? Here is the statement we just received from W‘s PR rep:
