Azzaro Names New Creative Directors

Azzaro Names New Creative Directors

When Azzaro parted ways with head designer Mathilde Castello Branco in October of last year, they said they would “shortly announce her successor.” While the French brand may want to reconsider their definition of shortly (it’s been nearly eight months), they have finally chosen her replacement.

The fashion house has hired Spanish designers Arnaud Maillard and Alvaro Castejón to take over creative duties, according to WWD.

Why Your Local Dance Store Might Be the Best Place to Buy a New Pair of Shoes

The great thing about dance shoes is that they look a little sexy, but they’re sturdy and practical. Those kinds of dance shoes are perfect for women like me who enjoy being able to walk in their heels—or maybe even run for a cab in them.

Fashion is not oblivious to their charms. Most recently, APC designer Jean Touitou, who has showed us many times over the years that he understands the value of a great ballerina pump/not looking like an idiot in uncomfortable heels, commissioned an Argentine company to make tango shoes for his fall collection.

First Look: Vanessa Seward for A.P.C.

First Look: Vanessa Seward for A.P.C.

Ever since it was announced that Vanessa Seward would be leaving Azzaro last year, we’ve missed seeing her super-pretty, need-to-wear-it-now pieces and wondered when we would get a glimpse of her design talent next. Happily, Seward’s recent collaboration with A.P.C. has offered us everything we’ve been missing.

Though the capsule collection, which debuted just yesterday, is definitely well-edited (there’s only a dozen looks), each piece is stylish, timeless and can be worn for many different occasions. According to the press release, “both A.P.C. and Vanessa Seward met through their mutual admiration for each other’s designs,” and the resulting collection is “a collaboration in the true sense, retaining the spirit of each designer.”

Fashion House Musical Chairs: A Visual Guide
Fashion Is Fun

Fashion House Musical Chairs: A Visual Guide

Usually, it’s editorial shakeups that get us all confused and inspire us to create befuddling charts and guides to recap and (at least attempt to) make sense of movement within the fashion industry. Lately, however, it seems that most of the movement is taking place at big fashion houses. Whether it’s the economy or designers getting burnt-out, it seems like a top level position opens (or gets filled) every week.

From Galliano’s exit from Dior to Marios Schwab’s from Halston (which happened so recently we didn’t have a chance to include it), here’s our little visual guide to the recent ins and outs at major fashion houses.

Azzaro Spring 2011: Vanessa Seward Does Pretty, Pretty Perfectly

PARIS–At this point in Fashion Month, all I want, more than anything else, is to feel giddy about some clothes. I’ve spent the last three weeks nitpicking and dissecting collections, and while there have been plenty of technically superb shows this season, there haven’t been a ton where I wanted things for myself. (Exceptions include: Richard Nicoll, HONOR, and Emilio de la Morena.)

However, today at Azzaro Spring 2011, I felt more than a twinge of “I want to buy that” excitement.

Issey Miyake, Azzaro & Costume National

Issey Miyake built the most elaborate set inside the Louvre. A maze of blue nets stretched from floor to ceiling across the runway mimicking his opening looks of pulled, twisted and knotted scarves. Miyake was inspired by a complex mathematical equation–he sat his mathematician front row–and wanted the scarves to visually represent the movement of Read more →
