Fashion News Roundup: Rodolfo Paglialunga Out at Vionnet, Florence Welch Dancing in Couture and Johnny Depp Compares Photo Shoots to Rape

Vionnet Has New Creative Directors: It’s just been announced that Rodolfo Paglialunga is out as designer of Vionnet. He is credited with restarting the sleepy French brand and the decision is reportedly mutual. He will be replaced by Italian twin sisters Barbara and Lucia Croce, who we know absolutely nothing about. {WWD}

Florence Welch’s Couture Dance Party: Fashion’s favorite Brit songstress Florence Welch wears gorgeous couture looks from Valentino and Elie Saab in Florence and the Machine’s latest video for “Shake it up.” We can’t ID the red dress, but it’s super pretty as well. UDPATE: It was Elie Saab. {YouTube via Fashin}

Karl Lagerfeld’s Coke Moment: In this hilarious video from Style.com’s twitter, a man in a suit carries a glass of Coca-cola on a silver tray over to Karl Lagerfed, waits for him to take a sip, and then walks away. It’s probably the best thing I’ve seen all fashion month. {@styledotcom}

Stormy Weather: Our Favorite Tempestuous Editorials and Campaigns

Storms, like the one that’s currently headed for New York and just cancelled my Montauk trip, can be scary and sometimes even dangerous, so everyone be careful this weekend! That being said, they can also make for intriguing backdrops and themes in fashion editorials and ad campaigns. You’d be hard-pressed to find an Annie Leibovitz-lensed photograph that takes place outdoors without some ominous-looking clouds. Somehow, they can make any subject look so much more captivating and dramatic.

So, on this rainy, gloomy day, we’ve decided to round up some of our favorite storm-inspired fashion photographs. Enjoy and please be safe!

Kate Middleton, the Obamas, Justin Timberlake and More Top Vanity Fair‘s 2011 International Best Dressed List

Vanity Fair has just released a preview of the 72nd installment of their famous annual International Best-Dressed List.

As usual, it’s a mixed bag of royals, financiers, socialites and entertainers. Yes, Kate Middleton, whose style we’ve been tracking since her royal engagement, makes her debut on the prestigious list as the Duchess of Cambridge (she’s listed as the wife of the future King of England). However, this isn’t her first time on the list–her inaugural appearance was in 2008.

There are a few other repeats–Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (no surprise there), Carey Mulligan (whom we love), Lady Gaga, who many people didn’t agree with last year, and Michelle Obama, who makes her fifth consecutive appearance–this time with President Obama as a best dressed couple. Another one of our faves, Tilda Swinton, made a well-deserved return to the list after a three-year hiatus. Musician and Lagerfeld muse Janelle Monae is an exciting newcomer and refreshing addition to list, which tends to disregard younger, edgier people.

As for the men, actor Colin Firth and actor/fashion designer Justin Timberlake make their debuts on the list. Firth’s role in A Single Man couldn’t have hurt his chances and it’s good to know that wearing a tragic denim suit to an awards show early in your career is something you can bounce back from. Click through for a sneak peek of the list.

Fashion Takes a Swan Dive: Beyond Bjork and Black Swan, Swans are Having a Moment

Fashion Takes a Swan Dive: Beyond Bjork and Black Swan, Swans are Having a Moment

We all know that fashion’s number one favorite animal and prop of choice is cats. However, another graceful animal is making its way into clothing, accessories, ad campaigns and editorials: swans. Not Black Swan or swan-inspired, but actual swans. We most recently noticed them in LOVE‘s “What Lies Beneath” spread, in which they swim around with naked models. They’ve also made notable appearances in Italian Vogue, Miu Miu’s spring 2011 collection and more. Click through for some of our favorite swan-filled fashion imagery. And don’t worry, we didn’t include Bjork’s swan dress since you’ve probably seen it enough.

Fashion News Roundup: Fashion News Roundup: Lindsay Lohan Covers Italian Vanity Fair, Brazilian Vogue Manages to Make Gisele Look Wonky and What Kate Middleton Should Wear in LA

Lindsay Lohan’s on Italian Vanity Fair: Lindsay Lohan’s first post-house arrest magazine cover is out and it’s the latest issue of Italian Vanity Fair, which hit newstands today. Lohan is also rumored to cover September’s American Vanity Fair, so we guess Conde Nast has no problem putting the same girl on the covers of international versions of the same magazine two months in a row. {Vanity Fair Italy}

More Behind-the-Scenes With the Olsens and Sally Lyndley: In the second behind the scenes video for Mary-Kate and Ashley’s Stylemint photo shoot, the twins discuss why they chose model Tati Cotliar, photographer Terry Richardson and stylist Sally Lyndley, who also talks about her inspiration for the shoot. {Stylelist}

Teenagers are buying couture: It’s easy to forget that some people attend couture shows with the intention of actually buying things. As the couture business continues to change and evolve, so are its customers. Young girls and royals from the middle and far east have become typical couture clients. {Telegraph UK}

Justin Bieber is Magazine Poison

Justin Bieber is Magazine Poison

Despite his ability to attract a crowd of a zillion screeching tweens, to sell perfumed dog tags and nail polish, and to generally wreak havoc wherever he goes, there’s something the Biebs can’t do: sell magazines.

WWD reports this morning that his February 2011 Vanity Fair cover was the worst-selling issue for the glossy in 12 years. Selling just 246,000 copies, which is almost 100,000 copies less than Vanity Fair‘s average, the issue was a massive flop for the magazine. While this is perhaps not surprising (because what 11-year-old seeks out Vanity Fair?), the superstar’s mug can’t sell more age-appropriate magazines either.

Gwyneth Paltrow Wears Nothing But Louis Vuitton Jewelry and Fishnets in Vanity Fair

Gwyneth Paltrow is 38, has had two children and this is what she looks like–she and Vanity Fair want you to know that. Maybe this should make us feel bad about ourselves, but how many of us have spent years following strict diets and waking up at 4:30 in the morning to do yoga and Tracey Anderson workouts? Gwyneth has always been totally forthcoming about the fact that she works her ass of (literally), so, honestly, she should look this good. Also, we all know airbrushing is a thing that exists, so, you know.

The Business

Editorial Musical Chairs: Filipa Fino Out at Vogue, W Loses Carolyn Tate Angel and More

WWD broke the news yesterday that Vogue‘s senior accessories editor Filipa Fino suddenly left the magazine after 11 years with the company. The following statement was included in the trade publication’s initial report, but has since been mysteriously removed: “Sources hinted that Fino’s departure could allegedly be tied to some inappropriate behavior on her part.”

There may be some truth to that statement. Multiple sources within Conde Nast and beyond have relayed to us that Fino acted unprofessionally in regards to the fashion closet and expenses.

No word yet on who will replace Fino. We reached out to Conde Nast for additional comment, but they declined to elaborate. Fino’s exit was only one of many recent shakeups within Conde Nast.

Coincidentally another of Conde Nast’s senior editors was just axed–W‘s senior fashion market editor Carolyn Tate Angel.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Cover Vanity Fair, Their North American Tour Itinerary Revealed and…Pippa’s Cleavage

Kate Middleton and Prince William Cover Vanity Fair, Their North American Tour Itinerary Revealed and…Pippa’s Cleavage

Nothing like coming back from a long weekend to be bombarded with news and images of the newly-minted royal couple and Pippa Middleton. From the North American trip itinerary to a new Vanity Fair cover to ogling Pippa courtside at the French Open, we are reveling in all the news.

First off, the cover of the July issue of Vanity Fair features Kate and William in a never-before-seen snap taken shortly after their engagement in November 2010. Shot by Mario Testino, the couple looks relaxed and happy; it’s less formal than their original engagement portrait. And if you keep track of these things, this cover comes 14 years after Testino shot Diana for the cover of Vanity Fair.

The article, which drops June 3, features details of the couple’s home life (who does which chores!), the experience of watching their own wedding on TV, and some honeymoon details. Other Testino pictures, including Princess Diana from 1997, are included in the feature.

The Vanity Fair cover and feature coincides nicely with the royal couple’s upcoming North American tour.
