Like pieces of fashionable sushi, Viktor & Rolf sent out their models on a conveyor belt before they hit the runway. They hit a pose and stuck it, pulled across the conveyer belt, their silhouettes illuminated by, well, the moon. One model even got on the conveyer belt on her hands and knees. Tyra couldn’t Read more →
Thanks to a grand endorsement from Carine Roifeld, Hakaan Yildirim was already a name to know when he received France’s prestigious ANDAM award in 2010. “We’re in Harvey Nichols, Colette, Opening Ceremony–it’s nearly 26 stockists internationally!” he told Fashionista at the awards ceremony in Paris last October.
Now it’s time for another up-and-comer to take advantage of the prize, i.e. €220,000, a mentorship with former Chloe chief exec Ralph Toledano, and the chance to show at Paris Fashion Week. This year’s nominees include Jeremy Laing, Adam Kimmel, Anthony Vaccarello, Commuun, Matthew Harding, and Yiqing Yin. The judges? Pierre Berge, Hillary Alexander, Emmanuelle Alt, Nicole Phelps, Sarah Lerfel from Colette, and Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony, to name a few.
The new Fashion’s Night Out website launched today and it’s pretty impressive. You can browse and search every New York event listing and even create your own itinerary.
You can also narrow the 51 pages of listings down by neighborhood, category (men, women, beauty) and/or specialty (block party, celebrity, food). But if you’re looking for, say, ten or so events that are most likely worth checking out, look no further. We reviewed each and every page to bring you the ten FNO events we’re most looking forward to.

Finding a new creative director for a brand is a painstaking process. Not only do you want someone whose aesthetic lines up with the brand’s image, but there’s contracts, availability, and a ton of paperwork before a collection sets foot on the runway.
In this process, sometimes bad decisions are made. Like Alessandra Falchinetti at Gucci or Marco Zanini at Halston, short lived, unprofitable directorships are plenty in the fashion industry. Not every decision puts a Giles at Ungaro, nor is every rumor about a Pugh at Mugler.

I don’t know much about men’s fashion – other than what I do and don’t like – but I’m making an effort to learn. Step One: Study GQ.com. So far, I’ve learned that men’s runway collections are even less realistic than women’s, but also that major trends for women, from SS10 in this case, influence Read more →
