There’s a lot of debate in beauty circles about how matchy-matchy you should get with your makeup and your outfit. Paz de la Huerta took some criticism for seemingly always matching her lipstick to her dress, which we actually think looks pretty good. And there’s an old school ladylike trend happening this fall, where we’ll see more matching lipstick and nail polish. The beauty of makeup is that you can change it, and women have a long history of wanting to change what nature has given them.
But can you–or rather, should you–change the actual color of your features?
Katy Perry is the undisputed queen of nail art, and she never disappoints with her manicures. Last night at the VMA’s was no exception. In a move that had everyone’s head spinning, she changed her nails along with her outfits (thanks to MTV Style for spotting the change up). She started out with a lovely pastel and yellow mani to coordinate with her Atelier Versace dress, then switched to a checkerboard emblazoned with the word “Katy” in pastel.
