While just about every non-fashion blog post about Lana del Rey in the past month suggests a backlash; the singer, whose debut album came out Tuesday, continues to ascend the fashion ranks. Case in point: here she is on the cover of British Vogue wearing Louis Vuitton. And not just any issue. She covers March, spring’s equivalent to the September issue. And perhaps fashion’s equivalent to her SNL performance, which many critics say she did too soon. Luckily, she doesn’t have to sing on a magazine cover. Read more »

What Backlash? Lana del Rey Scores the Cover of Vogue UK While Her Album Is Universally Panned
By Dhani Mau
There is a lot of speculation around who is going to cover Vogue‘s March issue. Styleite reported yesterday that it heard the magazine was calling in samples for Taylor Swift, who attended Rodarte’s runway show in September with Anna Wintour. But this morning WWD is reporting that Adele is March’s cover girl.

Would You Rather? The Kate Moss as David Bowie on the Cover of Vogue Edition
By DANA KRUSPE
The December/January edition of Vogue Paris has finally arrived, David Bowie-style. Editor Emmanuelle Alt has broken the mold of the typically guest-edited issue (remember the hubbub over Tom Ford’s last year? It was rumored to be one of the reasons for Carine Roitfeld’s exit from the magazine) but Alt has taken a different route, deeming it the Music issue instead. Not everything here is unfamiliar, though. Read more »

Quote of the Day: Manolo Blahnik Doesn’t Think John Galliano Would Return to Dior After Being So ‘Badly Treated’
By Leah Chernikoff“Franca Sozzani once said something about John Galliano that I thought was perfect. She said that ‘Dior’s solution and salvation would be to bring back that man,’–and I agree. Of course he would never do that after being so badly treated. What he said was horrific, but said under the influence of drugs and alcohol–that is no reason to destroy talent.”
–Manolo Blahnik to Vogue UK, about the possibility of Galliano returning to Dior. Read more »

Quote of the Day: Alber Elbaz Explains Why He Doesn’t Do Drugs
By Fashionista“I don’t take drugs because if I did I’d love them–I’d be a junkie. And because I’m Jewish, I’d probably be a dealer, too.”
-Alber Elbaz in a hilarious and utterly charming interview with Vogue UK, on the pressures designers face and their coping mechanisms. Read the whole thing. It’s worth it.
Storms, like the one that’s currently headed for New York and just cancelled my Montauk trip, can be scary and sometimes even dangerous, so everyone be careful this weekend! That being said, they can also make for intriguing backdrops and themes in fashion editorials and ad campaigns. You’d be hard-pressed to find an Annie Leibovitz-lensed photograph that takes place outdoors without some ominous-looking clouds. Somehow, they can make any subject look so much more captivating and dramatic.
So, on this rainy, gloomy day, we’ve decided to round up some of our favorite storm-inspired fashion photographs. Enjoy and please be safe!

I don’t have to tell you that the September issue is the most important issue of the year… But in case you’re living under a rock without a copy of The September Issue, it is.
Lucky for us, just about every magazine’s September issue cover has been revealed, from Vogue US romantic Kate Moss shot to a sexy Cindy Crawford on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore. Still missing from the pack is V‘s highly anticipated cover styled by Carine Roitfeld and Vogue Italia’s cover.
From the existing covers we’ve discerned that Louis Vuitton is the new Prada. Vuitton’s AW11 collection appears on 6 of the 51 covers shown here – more than any other label, so far.
And don’t forget that LOVE’s model covers hit newsstands on September 1! Will you be getting a Lara or a Mariacarla?
(p.s. Yes, that is Leigh Lezark on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Korea – it’s the last slide.)

Fashion News Roundup: Vogue China’s Freja Tribute, Topless Kate Moss and Fashion’s Night In Gets Supersized
Tao Okamoto As Freja In Vogue China: There’s nothing better than a model’s homage to another model, and this one is amazing. Okamoto gets wispy-haired and leathered up to recreate Freja’s enviable model-off-duty style and the result is dead on. Props to stylist Claire Richardson. {Models.com}
Rihanna Covers September Glamour: So it begins. The first of the September covers appears with this seriously bootylicious sequin pants shot. {The Cut}
Fashion Film: Daphne Guiness As Jean Seberg: Guinness collaborated with filmmaker and photographer Joe Lally to create The Murder of Jean Seberg, an art film that loosely tells the story of the beloved American actress’ controversial death in 1979 (it’s more conceptual than fact-based). Read the interviews with Guinness and Lally as well. {ShowStudio}

Arizona Muse is without a doubt the model to beat. She burst onto the scene during the Spring 2011 season, with her only visible credit being an Urban Outfitters online model, and has yet to slow down. Dazed and Confused dedicated an entire issue to her, which means that she’s in the popularity realm of Agyness Deyn circa 2008 when i-D identified the pixie hair model as an icon. Read more »

Trendspotting: Asian Influence
From V’s Asian Issue to the pages of Vogue UK, stylists and photographers are looking east for inspiration. I blame it on Marc Jacobs’ SS11 show for Louis Vuitton, but economists may blame it on the booming market in Asia. Whatever the reason, nothing is more en vogue than referencing the far east.

British Vogue has just been immortalized in yarn. And embroidery thread. Lost at E Minor tipped us off to artist Inge Jacobsen, who created these incredibly detailed high fashion samples by stitching directly onto British Vogue‘s glossy covers–recreating Natalia Vodianova and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s cleavage with impressive accuracy. Jacobsen says it took her around 40 hours to hand-stitch each cover. Unfortunately Jacobsen’s fashion-meets-arts and crafts masterpieces aren’t available for purchase until June, as they’re part of her final degree show.
Click through to see Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in cross stitch. Which cover would you like to see get Jacobsen’s hand-stitched treatment?
