Franca Sozzani Doesn’t Do Meetings: The long-time EIC of Vogue Italia told Industrie that she never – NEVER! – participates in sit-downs because “responsible and creative” people “don’t need to have a teacher.” I think my elementary school art teacher would respectfully disagree with that statement, Ms. Sozzani. {Telegraph}

Carey Mulligan Looks Flawless on W, Has a Chip(munk) On Her Shoulder: Carey gets another cover – but this time it’s a new photo! The lady looks phenom in her dainty (Nina Ricci?) bra. {Style Frizz}

Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy Spread is Not So Bad: Damn that girl is stacked. And no full frontal. Brava Lindsay. {OhNoTheyDidn’t}

First it was Crystal Renn, then Marquita Pring, and now Candice Huffine is the latest plus model poised to break the mold. She recently landed the cover of Vogue Italia, a milestone considering the cover featured three plus-size models without designating them as “curvy” or “plus,” and makes a stunning appearance in W’s September issue. Just this morning, W‘s new fashion director Edward Enninful Tweeted “I am loving Candice Huffine @FordModels @models. So beautiful xoxo,” which makes us think we might be seeing Huffine in another issue of W in the near future.

We chatted with the model on the rise about her recent successes, her take on size in the fashion industry, and whether she’s ever had to pad for jobs.

Fashionista: How does it feel to be in the all-important September issue for the fashiony-est of mainstream glossies, W? What was the shoot like?
When the shock of the shoot wears off maybe I can express what I’m feeling! It’s just beyond special and I feel honored to have been chosen and everyday I shake my head and giggle a little at how much has changed for me recently. Like Vogue, shooting with Meisel and his team is like a fairy tale…the most beautiful clothing, the nicest people, a calm set where you just know the end product is going to be nothing short of spectacular. I feel so lucky.

And how did it feel to land the cover of Vogue Italia–especially without any modifiers like “curvy issue”?

Lady Gaga’s Sister is a Candidate for an Off-Broadway Design Gig: Though Lady Gaga has all of the fashion connections in the world, her little sister Natali Germanotta, a budding designer, is starting small. The 19-year-old is being considered to design costumes for a new off-Broadway production called “Simon Says.” It will be interesting to see how Natali’s aesthetic compares to Gaga’s. {WWD, Subscription Required}

Teen model sensations Lindsey Wixson and Daphne Groeneveld take Manhattan in “Scene on the Street” in W‘s August fall preview issue. The editorial, styled by the mag’s new fashion director Edward Enninful and photographed by Alasdair McLellan, features the young models all over Manhattan–from the Lower East Side to the Met, from Radio City to the Queensboro Bridge–styled to reflect their locations. Our favorite is the punk look on the LES. What’s yours?

W’s Music Muse Spread: An awesome photo slide show from the magazine’s current issue captures fashion designers with their musical inspirations. Amazing pairs include Rodarte and Kanye, M.I.A. and Donatella Versace, Karl and Janelle Monae (Lagerfeld’s quote: “And Janelle rhyme’s with Chanel, no?”). {W}

Carine Roitfeld To Launch An Independent Magazine? Forget about French Harper’s Bazaar. The latest rumor swirling around Paris is that the stylist might launch her own indie magazine. Sounds similar to what Olivier Zahm was spewing at New York Fashion Week last February. {Hint}

Weird Al Parodies Born This Way: It’s hilarious, especially since Al’s head is digitally fixed onto a male dancer’s body and sort of bobbles. {Styleite}

Check Out This Striped, Color-tastic Editorial: Models lounging around a playground in candy-colored zig-zags, florals, swirls and colorblocks is exactly what we needed to remind us that it’s summer, now that the sun has disappeared. The crazy patterned socks are particularly adorable. {Contributing Editor}

Alex Wang’s Accessories to Debut With eBay Exclusive: Everyone wants them, everyone will kill to have them, so what better way to democratically level the playing field than eBay? On Friday, June 17, you can hash it out on the web for four exclusive styles before the complete official release in July. { Fashionologie}

W’s New Mission To Be “Fashion’s After Party”: Stefano Tonchi has helmed the mag for a year now with less success than hoped for. So, a new ad campaign featuring high-heeled masked models (presumably at some glamorous party the likes of which you are not invited to), will be splashed about the web and on NYC taxis in an attempt to garner excitement about the poor performing publication. {WWD}

W‘s first-ever beauty issue features plenty of Hollywood heavyweights–Julia Roberts, natch–but it’s a spread of three of the industry’s hottest models (Estee Lauder spokesmodel Joan Smalls, Chinese superstar Sui He and 17-year-old New Zealander Emily Baker) that we’re obsessing over. Read more »

Just yesterday we reported that W mainstay and styling legend Alex White had resigned from W, and early this morning, her replacement has been announced.

At around 1am EST Edward Enninful took to his brand new twitter account–it’s only two days old–to announce his new position at W magazine, “i have a new job as Fashion and Style Director for W Magazine. Thanks for all the kind words.” Enninful takes over this position from White, who held the position for the last 16 years. He got his start at i-D (he was fashion director there at 18) and for the past ten years has worked as freelance stylist for Italian and US Vogue (you might remember him from The September Issue).

We’re curious to now why White waited until now, months after W’s editorial change-up to leave, and for how long Enninful knew he had the job.

We just got a tip from a very reliable source that W‘s revered fashion director Alex White resigned this afternoon. According to the source, White has left to focus on freelance projects.

If it’s true it’s shocking news, and a shame. White has been at W since 1994 and stuck around through all the recent changes at the high fashion glossy–namely the installment of Stefano Tonchi as EIC and she just launched the delightful blog Alex White Edits (though it hasn’t been updated since March 23).

We’ve reached out to W for confirmation and will update with any news. If you know anything write to us at tips@fashionista.com.

Inspirational super-stylist Alex White is one of the best in the business–her whimsical and eye-popping editorials are what make W a hit magazine–so when I heard she was blogging, I almost leapt out of my seat.

White’s blog, titled “Alex White Edits,” is a new feature on the W website that will showcase White’s creative process as well as snapshots and notes from her travels. So far the blog details a visit to see Tabitha Simmons’ new shoe collection, some shots of pre-fall, an extensive behind the scenes look at the Nina Ricci AW11 show that White styles, and the most alluring Polaroids and sketches from White’s “Against Nature” editorial that ran in W‘s March 2011 issue.

The behind the scenes work of a stylist is usually unseen by the majority of fashion followers, which is why White’s blog is such a great addition to online fashion culture. But read with caution–it’s just the thing to make you want quit your day job and start working 24/7 for a stylist.
