The energy could not be higher in the room as Michael Kors presented his fall 2013 collection, despite the fact that between Nemo and the Grammys this fashion week has been rendered considerably less star-studded. Leave it to Kors to score a front row coup of Hilary Swank-next to-Zoe Saldana-next to-Jada Pinkett Smith-chaperoning Willow Smith-a few seats down from-Michael Douglas. In contrast with the celeb-second coming in the front row, Kors’s runway featured a team of “commando-glam fashletes”.

Mario Lopez’s new underwear line RatedM is available on freshpair.com, and will be in Bloomingdale’s stores starting February. We’ve become huge fans of the Hollywood Reporter over the last few months, mostly due to Janice Min’s excellent makeover of the trade publication. Staffer Merle Ginsberg navigates the LA fashion scene with an entertaining mix of gossip, insider news, and general knowledge that is not only rare for the West Coast, but rare for fashion writing in general.
So we were thrilled to see Ginsberg’s list of the 25 most powerful stylists in Hollywood covering this week’s issue. Rachel Zoe obviously ranks number one, with names like Nicole Chavez, Annabel Tollman, Brad Goreski, Leslie Fremar, and Kate Young rounding it out. Is Elle Moving to New Jersey?: Apparently Lagardère, who owns Elle, is considering two offers for the mag: one from Hearst and one from German publisher, Bauer. While Bauer publishes several mags overseas, they also publish titles in the US, namely tabloid weeklies In Touch and Life & Style, out of their US headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey (we know this because one time we worked at Bauer for three weeks–and that commute sucks so much). Aishwarya Rai Bachchan May Sue Elle For Lightening Her Skin: There’s some controversy brewing as to whether Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s skin was lightened in her Elle India cover and now the Hindustan Times is reporting that she is “in disbelief” and may “take action.” {Hindustan Times}
The mini fashionista craze isn’t going anywhere fast. First it was Willow Smith making the rounds at Milan Fashion Week, then Chloë Moretz was featured in T, and now it’s Elle Fanning’s day in the sun. The 12-year-old star of Sofia Coppola’s new film Somewhere was all over our December mood board. She’s wearing Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel for a spread in Interview and Valentino and Rodarte (including the Kirkwood for Rodarte wedges) on the red carpet to promote the film.
“I love fashion! I love clothes!” she told Interview. “I really like vintage clothes, so in my closet there’s a lot of ’50s stuff.” Fanning’s red carpet appearances show that she gravitates towards a girly ’50s silhouette, which makes sense since she is, after all, a girl. She also told the mag she prefers vintage to designer, but Valentino seems to be a clear favorite.

This past weekend, Sally Singer‘s T featured 13-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz, star of Kick-Ass and the forthcoming The Fields styled in a Wren tunic (Moretz wore it like a dress). She wore Chanel Resort to her last awards show. In Milan this past season Willow Smith made the rounds with mom Jada, sitting front row at Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo and Emporio Armani. And Emma Watson, a college sophomore, can do no wrong on the red carpet. Bloggers Tavi Gevinson and Jane Aldridge have proven that style doesn’t necessarily come with age or fame.

Not one to disappoint, Willow Smith wore this crazy getup to the American Music Awards last night: a long sleeved romper, some slouchy boots, gloves, and this nutty yellow buckled shoulder-arm accoutrement type thing that we can’t quite figure out. Give it a name!
We’re completely unabashed about our love for Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” video. The song is awesome but the styling is even better. Willow earned some fashion cred when she sat front row next to her mom at Milan Fashion Week. This video should cement her status as the most fashionable nine-year-old in the land. We’re betting the video was styled by Mariel Haenn, who styles Willow as well as Rihanna, and for this dazzling display of creativity (hair as a paintbrush, lip art, and silver eyelashes are just a few of the standout style moments) she deserves massive props. And it’s all age-appropriate. We’re looking at you Cyrus sisters.
