Thank goodness designers are finding plenty of ways to play with the animal print.

The “Moda” in Milan was certainly “Alta;” no denim or designer leggings to be found anywhere. Instead, we found gorgeous felt coats and tailored dresses–a new reserved chic, often refreshingly subverted with slightly rumpled styling. We’re excited about this “Downton Dowager” idea, as well as all the other news from the Italian shows.
Check out our list of the top ten trends the from the city where luxury knows NO limits.
The words “timeless” and “elegant” were being thrown around a lot in Milan, especially the first few days of the collections. And we admit that when we think of Milan, home of Versace and Roberto Cavalli, those aren’t the immediate words that come to mind. Until now.
Burberry debuted their new nail polish line in a sultry dark, classic red. More specifically, in oxblood. And it wouldn’t be a Burberry show without a trench coat or two to match. It wasn’t long before we noticed the color showing up elsewhere in London.
Vinyl, PVC, and latex clothing usually send one’s mind straight to the gutter. Or to a vision of a catsuit. It’s certainly not versatility, wearability, or comfort. I know it’s not just me.
However, fall/winter 2013 is putting a spin on these preconceptions, with plenty of bright, shiny, and kinky nuggets.
Playing the name game in London is far from easy: So many cool young designers, so many unusual names, and only a week to make sense of them all. It’s largely due to the aversion many Brit design talents have to being crafted into the sort of the fashion celebs we adore stateside. No worries; the clothes spoke volumes for themselves, as London dialed down the quirked, and turned out one of the most sophisticated seasons in recent years. See for yourself!
Fashion week came, and brought a feisty lil’ friend named Nemo along for the ride–forcing us to consider forgoing, “Well, doesn’t she look chic!” for, “Well, doesn’t she look warm?!” The runways begged to differ, offering up endless new ways to bundle-up beautifully for fall 2013. Check out our top ten trend takeaways from the fashion week that weathered the storm in style.
We’ve seen tasteful nude nails backstage for fall 2013, and some original nail art–both of which we expected. More unexpected? Decidedly dull nails. And by dull we don’t mean boring–we mean shine-free. (Well, except for Marc Jacobs’ shiny new line.) Yep, matte nails are offically a trend.
Layering is a staple for cold fall/winter climates. With warmth a priority, designers only have so many options to show customers how to bundle up in as chic a manner as possible. So, how about doubling up on coats? That appears to be the message this fall, with collections from Altuzarra, DKNY and The Row pairing short coats over long coats.
My fashion friends wear tons of rings. Rings on their ring fingers, rings on their pointer fingers, rings on their middle fingers, rings at the top of every single finger, rings stacked and stacked. But if you’re imagining Karl Lagerfeld-inspired, goth-style rings, don’t. These rings are excruciatingly delicate—just a sliver of silver or gold. But together, they form a… wait for it… ring party!
“I am wholly standing behind the finger party though I’d rather call it a digital rager, puns et al.,” says Leandra Medine, founder of The Man Repeller and trade-marker of the phrase arm party (the ring party’s predecessor).
Fur sure makes a statement, but patterned fur makes an even bigger one.
This trend just keeps going, and going, and going and going, and going and going, and…
