One of Betsey Johnson's backstage hallmarks is huge, elaborate signs to psych up the models. Last year, Betsey wrote all the words to Big Spender on giant hot pink poster board and sprinkled them with glitter, encouraging her girls to vamp it up on the runway. Last season, Betsey scribbled "Be Sexy, Sexy, Sexy, Cool, You Know!" above all the hair and makeup stations. And now? Just one big sign, with a Debbie Harry drawing and a banner screaming "I love my girls" in Betsey's signature scrawl. The clothes were similarly relaxed, as was Betsey herself when she rehearsed with her catwalkers before the show. "It's supposed to be charm school," she told her opening models as she armed them with feather dusters and French maid caps, "so, you know, look cute but kind of rich, too." And thus, Betsey summed up the entire Fall '07 season so far.

Fashion Week Scoreboard: Betsey Johnson
I'm not at a sports bar. I'm not eating buffalo wings. It's a Tuesday night and there are no sports to watch (unless you count dance moms, which I'm DVRing). So I've given in and I am AT FASHION WEEK, LIVE!! And I have news for you--it's a shit show. No, really. We're outside Betsey Johnson and this place is out of control.
