Bravo to I Am Fashion, who braved the motley crowds of Canal Street for a fashion expose of sorts: After examining Louis Vuitton's spring bag collection - and spotting its most iconic tote, a high/ low riff on the plastic bags used to carry the fake Louis Vuitton bags through Chinatown - the author went down to Chinatown herself to photograph the bag's inspiration in action. Her verdict?
"I'd like to point out that while they make it look really stylish and cool on the catwalk and in the photoshoots, the actual people who uses these bags are not so glamorous. In fact, these bags are commonly used by street vendors as storage and for garbage disposal."
Okay, it could be a clever reversal of fortune, in a Warhol Brillo Box way, but would we pay $1000 for it? Actually, yes, some of us would.
