From mud-splattered stiletto heels to glamazons sucking on pearl strands as though they were pacifiers, New York artist Marilyn Minter captures the twisted, dirty side of fashion like no other. Unconcerned with the sleek polish of typical fashion photography, Minter challenges beauty ideals by instead highlighting the imperfect moments -- sweat on a well-arched brow, red lipstick on gleaming white teeth, and dark, mascara-soaked tears. It seems we haven't been the only ones pouring over the photographer's recently-published monograph. Check out the make-up from the Dior S/S '08 show with its emphasis on wine-stained lips and glitter-smeared lids. Think Pat McGrath is a Marilyn Minter fan? --NATALIE GUEVARA
M.A.C To Launch Marilyn Monroe Collection
After finding quirky make up muses in Daphne Guinness, Beth Ditto, and Iris Apfel, M.A.C. has announced a new collection based on the Ultimate Muse - Marilyn Monroe. (A little late to jump on that bandwagon, but hey, Michelle Williams could still win an Oscar for My Week With Marilyn, right?) The cosmetic line is partnering with Authentic Brands Group LLC, who acquired the intellectual property of Marilyn Monroe LLC last year, WWD is reporting.
