There’s been a lot of talk over David Beckham bringing soccer to mainstream America. We don’t know (or care?) if he can pull it off, but now he’s bringing us something we actually do care about. The soccer legend will star as the new global face for Emporio Armani Underwear- which will be available in the U.S. for the first time starting in February. This isn’t the only fashion occasion the two have met over- Armani designed a custom wardrobe for the English national team back in 2002, working with Beckham on the designs. The two have been friends ever since, and Armani has even spilled to the press what he believes Beckham’s true reasons for moving to the U.S. were- not the $250 million contract with LA The Galaxy, but the chance to audition for parts in Hollywood. We have the feeling this is just the beginning of seeing Beckham’s face (and abs) all over billboards and magazine pages beginning next month. The Beckhams are already at the top of the earnings food chain, and now they’re poised to go even further. While he already has two fragrances with Coty, David Beckham is launching a third in September called Homme by David Beckham. And now he’s taking it further than just fragrances--Beckham’s going to be a full-on lifestyle brand. He and his business partner, Simon Fuller (of American Idol and Spice Girls-producing fame), have an empire in mind. “David and I have a number of ambitious and exciting ideas in development across a broad range of categories," Fuller told WWD. "The next 10 years will see David evolve into being recognized, not just as an iconic sports figure, but also as an important entrepreneur.” Beckham recognizes that his career is winding down, though he says he plans to play soccer for a few more years. In addition to the fragrance, Beckham’s next launch is a men’s bodywear line.
