Last night, Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez hosted a toy drive benefiting children's hospitals and charities in New York. Hundreds of people lined the block at the David Barton Gym in Astor Place to donate their gifts and mingle with fashion's favorite men. After a very long line at coat-check and a cocktail or two, Intern Steff and I set our nerves aside and introduced ourselves to Marc—definitely a moment we won't soon forget. Then we settled in and enjoyed the in-house entertainment. From burlesque dancers to men on stilts, the party surpassed our wildest expectations. Amanda Lepore was there, Michael Musto roamed the floor and even hopped on a treadmill. Patrick McMullan was snapping photos left and right, and Richie Rich stopped by with an entourage in tow. The only thing missing was a Gaga sighting. (That, and we never saw Susan Sarandon who was also co-hosting the event.)
But believe us, the fashion was not failing. Marc arrived in his usual uniform -- a plaid kilt (which is really a skort) and combat boots, while Lorenzo rocked a pair of ombre jeans and a very tight tank. Marc's influences seem to know no bounds because we even spotted a Marc-look-alike in an actual kilt, not to mention an enormous amount of plaid at the party. But by far the most outrageous ensembles were the ones worn by the modern day club kids. We spotted pasties, face paint, feathers, glitter, afros, thongs, no pants and a Jeremy Scott-inspired "toy coat". It was fashion on crack. We left the party on a serious fashion high, feeling exhilarated but very much under dressed.
