Just yesterday, with the demise of ID (not i-D) and the end of 2009 (which will live on in infamy as the year the media broke) approaching, we started wondering about the crazies who started magazines this year. We never guessed WWD would join the list. They're joining JCK to produce a monthly magazine, WWD/JCK Magazine, and a website under Fairchild Publications. It sounds like the emphasis will be on jewelry, though it will hold plenty of fashion and feature editorials and news promoting the jewelry industry. The president and CEO of Fairchild told WWD, “Leadership and editorial integrity are essential elements of WWD, and JCK Magazine represents both within the jewelry world. We think that working together will allow us to invest in the future, create new opportunities and shake things up in a very positive way.” Fairchild falls under Condé Nast, and they're the last company we expected to be starting magazines in 09.
