While United Bamboo and Peter Som have uniquely different audiences--the former courts Brooklyn's arty set, while the latter appeals to Upper East Side ice blonds--both labels did yesterday what isn't always the most important thing in high fashion: They made pretty clothes.
At Bamboo, the look was very 1940s, with lots of bows and high-waisted silhouettes. I loved the wild hair and dark lips. The curly locks almost made me want to skip my blowout and go au naturel. (If only it looked that good in real life!)
Som, with a big nod to the 1970s version of 1940s suits, used plenty of color and mixed up prints. And the peplum-waisted floral cocktail dress really popped.
While strong, directional clothing has its place in my heart and my closet, it's always nice to see a few collections that simply make me happy. Both of these accomplished that.
