The vibe at Vena Cava's noon runway show was a bit solemn, given the morning's sad news. Otherwise, it was exactly what you'd expect,. Friends Jeff Halmos and Sam Shipley graced the front row, as did big-time buyers like Linda Fargo from Bergdorf Goodman. A live band yet again provided the soundtrack--this time it was The Like.
And the clothes were classic Vena Cava--a slinkily mix of silk, high-waisted shorts, black cocktail dresses and body-skimming jumpsuits--with a few the design duo's classic art prints mixed in for good measure. While I liked the violet color streaking several of the models' ponytails and loved the sculptural necklaces and belts created by Mawi, my favorite moment was when Flo from Supreme stomped down the runway in a distressed grey leather jacket that somehow combined my favorite old field coat and my mom's bomber from the '80s to create the perfect autumn topper.
Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai don't reinvent the wheel each season. But unlike some designers who are known for a very specific aesthetic, I never grow tired of their vision.
