Boy., the women's collection from Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg, is one of our top five favorite labels. However, the hefty price tag hinders us from buying as much as we'd like to.
That's why it's so exciting that Sternberg plans to launch girl., a diffusion line for those who can't afford $1,700 blazers.
We're hoping girl. includes a lower-priced version of the designer's bandage skirt, which we've been lusting after for several seasons. (Kirsten Dunst, shown at left, demonstrates its perfection.)
Sternberg wants to push his sales from $12 million to $40 million over the next three years, and he understands that in order to accomplish such a feat, he must broaden his customer base.
Jumping from $12 million to $40 million is not an easy task. To put it in perspective: 3.1 Phillip Lim brought in about $50 million in sales last year, while Alexander Wang garnered $25 million.
When you consider the number of storefronts Wang and Lim are in and compare it with Sternberg, his goals seem lofty. But with a lower-priced collection to better compete with those aforementioned brands, as well as some of our other favorites like Acne and Isabel Marant, it's a possibility. Especially if he gets financial backing from a private equity firm.
