Marimekko may be just another example of a well-known brand turning to Central Saint Martins to revive its ready-to-wear collection.
But there is a slight difference between the Finnish textiles label and the others: They've brought on not just one, but a whole slew of recent graduates to redirect the company.
First, it was Virva Launo, who was appointed creative director at Marimekko in 2009. Then, just a few days ago in Helsinki, Launo presented a collection featuring knitwear by Derek Lawlor, colorblocking by Chary Westberg and textile design by Joanna Vanderpuije, all of whom are her former classmates.
All we can say is, there must be something in the water there, because those kids are damn talented.
