“I like to say that Sofia Coppola made me cool again...I haven’t been shot by Mario Testino in like six years and now he’s shooting me for the cover of V Man and L’uomo Vogue, and Tom Ford has been really good to me for all of these events.”

Quote of the Day: Mario Testino Inspired Emma Watson’s Pixie Cut
"We had to wait [to work with each other] until we had the same haircut" -- Mario Testino. "Actually, my inspiration for my haircut was Mario" -- Emm
Anna Wintour on Luring Mario Testino to Vogue
There's no doubt that Anna Wintour and Mario Testino have a close working relationship--a fact that was underscored last night, at the opening of Testino's first US exhibition, "In Your Face," held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Given the number of shots in the exhibition that come from Vogue editorials--and the number of Vogue covers Testino consistently shoots every year--it's obvious there's something between Anna and Mario that makes for great photos. So, when I saw Anna (looking fabulous in Prada S/S 2013, by the way) chatting with Vogue European editor-at-large Hamish Bowles at last night's cocktail reception (more on that later) I knew I had to ask them what it is about Mario that makes him one of Vogue's go-to photographer.
Karlie Kloss Poses Nearly Nude For Mario Testino in Allure: Does It Make You Uncomfy?
Images of a nearly nude Karlie Kloss shot by Mario Testino from Allure's October 2011 issue have started making the internet rounds. While the photos aren't raunchy in the least, they're still somewhat controversial given Karlie is only 19-years-old, and is often thought of (and referred to) as a "teen model." The people over at Fashion Copious seem pretty outraged, saying, "No agent/agency should [any longer] allow their girls to be shot by Testino." Many Fashion Spot commenters also took issue with the shoot. Ivyinthemood said, "I don't really like that she is naked...," while commenter Vanity Fair said "omg, I feel that this is such [sic].. inappropriate." Lifeispeachy seemed to sum up the general consensus, saying "it's still so weird to see her like that." We have to say, we, too, were pretty surprised to see Kloss in such an overtly sexual, partially nude shoot.
An Evening in SoHo: Sofia Coppola Talks Somewhere and Anna Sui's Book Signing
SoHo was cold and packed with Christmas-crazed tourists Thursday night, but that didn't keep me from scurrying over to the Apple Store and to Anna Sui's boutique for two really exciting events celebrating two of fashion's finest (who also happen to be friends.) First stop? Apple, to see one of my icons (not just in fashion but in life), Sofia Coppola, speak about her latest film Somewhere, as part of Apple's Meet The Filmmaker series. And while Marie Antoinette will forever reign as my favorite of her films (okay, maybe my favorite movie ever?), I have high hopes for Somewhere, which stars one of our favorites, Elle Fanning. After about an hour of camping out in my chair so that no one else snagged it, Sofia finally walked in wearing a heather gray cashmere sweater scrunched up to her elbows, a pair of fitted blue jeans, and what looked like a pair of Chloe wedges. Her hair was perfectly tousled and the only jewelry she had on was a diamond tennis bracelet and a slim black leather watch. Sofia spoke about the challenges she faced, the similarities and differences between all of her films, and what inspired her to do Somewhere. "All my previous films had been from a girl's perspective, so I really wanted to do a film from a man's point of view." she said.
