I might be missing the latest snowstorm (haha!), but I live in New York. And despite the lovely weather here in Florence, my lips and skin still feel like they've been exposed to the elements.
Yet despite the gaggle of moisturizers out there, I still have no idea how to keep my skin soft and smooth during the winter without greasy lotions. And it seems that many of you feel the same way. So I asked professional snowboarders/Roxy spokeswomen Torah Bright and Erin Comstock to explain how they take care of their skin. I mean, if they can manage to keep their skin protected, it should be easy for the rest of us, right? Here's what Torah and Erin had to say:
Fashionista: Regular girls who aren't out in the elements everyday complain about dry, cracked skin all winter. What do you use for your body to keep skin from getting itchy and chalky? Torah: I use a lavender body wash and then any body moisturizer i can get!
Erin: I use Cetaphil moisturizing cream for my face when it gets really dry. I also apply Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate at night time. It contains lots of good oils and minerals for the skin. And for a body cream I use Body Butter from The Body Shop. Dry lips are another thing we all struggle with. Got any secrets? Torah: I apply sunscreen to my whole face and neck including lips and then throughout the day I re-apply paw paw ointment to protect against wind burn, etc.
Erin: Drink lots of water! Water is the best thing for dry lips and skin. I also use lavender lip balm from Young Living.
Are there any beauty benefits to being out in the cold? Torah: I can't think of any... perhaps a bit of preservation!?
Erin: Yes, when I'm out in the cold I always wrap a scarf around my face and I find that it provides 100% sun blockage.
This one is for Torah: Your collection for Roxy is so adorable. Obviously it's got to protect you from the elements as well. How did you achieve that? Torah: It's function before form when it comes to outerwear. I spend hours and hours a day out in the elements, so it is almost trial and error to figure out what works and what doesn't. We are constantly making changes [to the collection to make it more protective against these elements. My must-have when it comes to the slopes, apart from the obvious, is a neck warmer! Must have!
You both look so fresh-faced with little need for makeup. Do you wear it often? If so, what are your favorite products? Torah: Yes i wear makeup! I love it! I love the Estee Lauder Daywear Plus, Bare Minerals, Fresh sugar lip treatment and my Chanel eye shadow kit.
Erin: I will once in a while use a powder (MAC) on my face to just add a little color. I also love the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous mascara. It never runs and it washes off really easily. I love it! And if I am going out for the night all of my eye shadows are from MAC. Fun make-up to go out on the town!
