Schedules are finalized, batteries are charged, shoes are chosen. And having a few key beauty items to face the week of chaos is just as important as having my Macbook charger in tow. Faced with crappy weather, a frenzied schedule of shows, and the pressure of day-to-night dressing, you have to be prepared for all eventualities. And really, isn’t this true of anyone’s life?
There are tons of new and classic products that are perfect:
Hair: Sleek or tousled? If the latter, you must try Bumble and Bumble’s new Texture Hair (Un)Dressing Creme. Run it through damp hair and dry with a diffuser for volume and a perfect messy look. I’ve used it on my hair dry, too. It adds a little weight and texture when things are getting flyaway. Prefer sleek? Aveda’s classic Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss with rice bran oil provides a ton of shine and the smell is really calming. And I’m giving Leah a can of Meta Revive Dry Shampoo from celeb hairdresser Serge Normant’s posh new line. Because who has time to wash their hair during Fashion Week? Eyes: Mascara is your friend. We recently reviewed a bunch of them, so choose according to your needs. Maybelline, the makeup sponsor at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, has another to add to your roster--One by One Volum’ Express. The bristles on the flexible brush are small and set closely together for big, fat lashes.
I’m throwing Cargo’s Essential Palette (neutrals) eye shadow in my bag with a few different brushes. Wet an liner brush and you can get perfect liner without digging for different tubes and pencils.
Lips: I’m going for color, having been inspired by all the gorgeous popsicle lip colors on the S/S 2011 runways. All new for this season: Maybelline’s Color Sensational Fifth Ave Fuchsia is my absolute favorite shade of raspberry-meets-hot-pink. And yes, I’m going for orange. Well, coral, thanks to Estee Lauder’s Coral Sun which is orange enough to seem orange, yet still pinkish. A new Clinique Chubby Stick in neutral Graped-Up is going into rotation, too. (A newly imagined Chubby Stick has been re-released by Clinique--it’s now a moisturizing lip balm with a dose of color, and no sharpening required, unlike the Chubby Stick of yore.)
Face: Thank you to Skyn Iceland for sending over a Fashion Week Survival Kit. Is it bad that I already felt the need to use the Icelandic Relief Eye Pen and I haven’t even left my apartment for the day or gone to a single show?
To round it out--gum, a compact mirror, band-aids (because I stupidly always wear new shoes), and lots of pens.
Now fully armed with the weapons of my profession, off I go.
